f30 335d = 313 hp (stock)

The 3.0 diesel is now available in the EU market f30. It has four wheel drive and 313 hp / 465 ft. lbs.

313/465!!!

How come no one is talking about this?

Scroll to the bottom of this link:
http://www.bmw.co.uk/vc/ncc/xhtml/st...4#MODEL_ENGINE

Also available as a 330d rated at 258/413 and as a Touring version in either specification.

So, will the 3.0 diesel return to the US 3 Series?

Right now I am very happy with my current ride -- nothing else BMW is selling is of interest to me --- in the future…if BMW wants my business and if I still feel then as I do today --they better have a 3 series with a 3.0 diesel or I may have to consider what other options are available. There may not be anything else available b/c the 335d is a unique machine, in my opinion, for what it is worth….-

Easy boy- EU pricing is always different from US pricing. If you compare models available in both countries, you will find that similar models are priced very differently in different markets.

I suspect that pricing would be similar to the e90 335i / 335d cost delta. But I wish that VAG Audi and BMW would get over this whole "diesel is a premium market" bs and make lower cost diesels available in this market. Both manufactures have made an investment in creating a diesel market in the US. If they want to increase the take rate of the diesel option, they may be well-served to make additional entry models available.

On the subject of manufacturing cost- it looks like the 313HP specification 3.0 diesel is available in the new US market X5. So the fact that the engine is already available in the US should make it a low cost option (in terms of parts, emissions certification and training) to offer in other models in this market.

what you are saying or implying doesn't make sense...exchange rates between euro and pound to US dollar while fluctuating is still set to some degree...still makes this a 82K car(granted this is fully loaded) in US dollars, which makes it a poor value....but then again all luxury/sports cars in europe, australia and asia seem like poor values to me.

Now if you are talking pure delta than its abit more understandable but still not justifiable.

Bet if we get this car in the US it would cost 60-65K at least to get M-Sport version, where as 2011 M sport 335D prob ran 54-55K.

Warning, going off on tangent:

Not sure if I will come back to this car to be honest, the value just isn't there anymore...diesel cost almost 4.00 a gallon where I live and premium gas runs 3.45 now...the savings in gas theory just doesn't have the same argument anymore....when I was getting 15mpg with old car and premium running 4.00 made a lot more sense.

The torque is nice but the turbo lag is pretty bad on this car and the manual paddle shift is pretty loose and clumsy and doesn't even compare to SMG II let alone DCT.

If gas prices cont the way it is now, I might as well go back to the M3, esp the new biturbo version which gets a lot better gas mileage than e92 V8 version.

You are correct. "Exchange rates" was a stupid justification for the difference. I have removed it. Nevertheless, it is safe to assume that a US specification f30 335d would not retail for $82k.

The f30 does not use the same transmission.

Anyone who compares an M3 with a 335d lacks the skill set to run an M3 at its limits. But you should totally buy a new M3 because it "gets a lot better gas mileage" than the previous generation.

This link explains some of the differences between the e90 N57 motor and the N57 in the 2014 535d.

I'm guessing the X5d and the european f30 335d retain the dual sequential turbos in order to generate 313hp.

For more on pricing, see this article from last summer regarding EU pricing:

Multiple reasons why prices are higher in Europe. To begin with, it is a completely different market.
Anyway if we had to list the major reason it is undoubtly taxes.

From19 to 22% depending on which country, and advertised numbers include it in the price.
In US sales tax is not included, but it is part of the check you leave in any deal.

Bottom line , Europe prices are indeed higher, but not as much as crude numbers comparisons imply.

It's very difficult to compare prises from us and eu.

Forexample in Finland F10 M5 with NO OPTIONS costs $148470 without taxes and $242165 with taxes.

How much does it cost in us...

What was the base price of a M-Sport 335d? My Sport Package 2011 with a good about of options was just a few hundred shy of $56K on the window sticker.

The window sticker for my base model 2011 335d with Cold Wx, Convenience, Premium, and Nav was $53,825 sans tax. That's 39,303 Euros at today's exchange rate.

yeah a loaded 2011 335D was around 54-56K i believe.

But when I built up the new 335D(very loaded though) it came out to 49K, which is 82K in USD.

But to be fair, there are a lot more options now when compared to 2011. Those nice looking blue M brakes being one of the options.

You can already configure a fully loaded US F30. The diesel add, if it ever comes to the US, will be a couple thousand over the f30 335i price...

I'll believe it when/if I see it in the US. So many of these cars would be reasonably simple to import to our market, but they just don't. I would think the m550d would make a heck of a splash.

Is anyone else as intrigued by the i3 with range extended as I am?...not as a replacement, just in general? I definitely want to take one for a spin. With all the weig being toward the bottom of that toaster-shaped figure, and a good 170hp, I would think driving dynamics should be pretty cool for a put-around-town beater. I wonder what the warranties will look like on the battery, though.

with diesel and premium gas prices the way they are, and the mpg the f30 M3 will do compared to the e92, I am getting more and more intrigued with new M3/4 again.

and with carbon buildup issues still lurking, the 335D is losing its luster imho...this is coming from a guy with 2 335D's now...

You must be kidding that you consider fuel money as a decision factor on a car that cost above 60k. $500/y as additional fuel cost? If much...LOL.
let's talk about fuel efficiency on the prius blog. Exchange ideas with boring people...

Actually don't care all that much about the actual price of fuel, it was going to gas station 3 times a week that was irritating me with e92 m3... I was getting 15mpg..Waste of time.. If I didn't drive 20-25k miles a year wouldn't be a big deal otherwise

And for most people driving a 335d, fuel economy is a real issue

I spend over $3k per year on fuel, $5k per year in my previous car. That's not an insignificant difference. If the 335d didn't get significantly better mileage than the 335i they would not have sold many.
