I like the design, and for the most part they are good at holding drinks in most situations, but over bumps with large drinks they can get a little bit springy..... again, black carpet

To the person who said their Gatorade bottles don't fit... They fit perfectly snug for me. Maybe they have gotten slightly smaller in the last two years?
And also, it's weird how every person who gets in my car makes a comment on how cool my cupholders are. I've only had my E90 for 2 months and my sister's huge boyfriend (played college football at Purdue) destroyed the left cupholder with his knee that had a gatorade in it... Now I never use them when I have a passenger. |

I hate em too. And this is coming from somebody who never really drinks anything besides a water bottle in the car. So it's not a big deal. I still think that they're flimsy, ineffective and allow drinks to tip easily. Oh well. I love the pedals, steering wheel, shifter and seats. That's what matters...

My only complaint is just like the OP from 2010... I can't fit a full Vitamin Water/Gatorade bottle in them. Other than that, no complaint.

Everyone complaining about the E9x cup holders must have never seen the E39 cup holders. If you even want to call them that...couldn't even fit a tiny Red Bull can in them. Pathetic. I actually like my cup holders. I fit large Starbucks cups in them all the time, and use those little plastic sticks that cover up the opening to keep the liquid from flying out while driving (or just stick a straw in it).

Also, this thread needs to die. It's 2 years old and it's obvious the cup holders suck. Nothing more needs to be said that hasn't already been said.

A travel cup or travel mug that will fit the 1999 328i?
My old 1999 328i has a cup holder that tapers down to a 2" diameter at its bottom. Even the tapered BMW and Starbucks mugs I've seen are larger than 2" in diameter at their bottoms. The only cup of any kind I've found that fits this cup holder is a 6 oz. styrofoam cup: yuck. Do you know of a travel mug with a 2" bottom?

I have an 07 and my passenger cup holder mechanism was broken when I bought it so I had to have a new one. My shop replaced the covers with the ones with the silver trim on, which was a nice surprise. I do agree they look better, especially as I have silver and black trim anyway. |

Mine's broken and won't click out when it's depressed. They're really small and insecure too. It would be more reassuring to have a deep holder that is very secure. It would be nice if they just had a design that would fit various sizes of cups.

So my cup holder was replaced on the side nearest to the passenger door. It was replaced with the style that has the metal trim piece. The problem I have now is that the other cup holder doesn't have the metal piece so they don't match. It's minor but I notice it...I asked if I could order just the front trim piece for the other side but was told they only sell the entire cup holder assembly and not just the front trim piece alone. Anyone else have this problem getting the trim piece only?

a lot of travel mugs like this one will fall out or tip if you take a hard turn. It's just not deep enough or doesn't hold the mug snug enough.
contiguo autoseal Thermos vacuumeeal, tested to tip in my car. large coffee from starbucks will also tip, McD's will tip, and anything that doesn't fit snug will tip.

I dont know if the e93 is the same as e90, but I ordered the cup holder covers only...... no problem. They were the updated ones with the silver trim.
Here is what it looks like on real OEM Last edited by Bmr3sn; 02-15-2013 at 07:44 PM.. |

Wow. They make GERMAN cars to please Americans?
Germany doesn't have a law against drinking while driving specifically(non alcohol) And America does have laws against driving while distracted aka cell phone law. Both nations have similar laws here. |

So... Does the cup holders with the chrome accent belong to LCI cars? I have pre-lci but I have the chrome accent holders. It's a 2009 335i e92. My research showed those ones being available in lci..

My friend lifted up his knee and popped a drink out of the front cup holder by hitting the bottom of it.

What's wrong with the cupholders? They're perfectly fine. I love the function where it cools your hot tea/coffee in the summer. I mean which other car have that option? Coffee cooler. Oh and if you can't fit your regular sized water bottles in the cupholders without them falling off, get less boring water bottles. You're in the ultimate driving machine, gotta be different and exciting.
