North American 335d Post DPF Removal Exhaust Ideas

For those of you that have removed the DPF and added a DP, what exhaust ideas have you done or are considering?

I've heard of going from the DP right into an x-type straight exhaust and removing the mufflers.

What are you guys thinking exhaust wise?

Greek, you are definitely a mind reader. I still haven't found that guy's post of the all 3" SS exhaust. Axle asked him how much and he said $800 and Axel got same quoted for ~$550 if i have my facts straight. It was about 3 months ago, i believe. He had it done in Maryland. I think he had either 4.25" or 4.5" diameter exhaust tips.

Maybe a road trip to Maryland for exhaust and VAC (Quaife). I almost sure I could find a good custom exhaust fabricator in Houston or at least Texas before I put 3000 miles on the car though.

Quaife is on the list but at a lower priority.

Exactly man. Hopefully this thread provides some ideas that maximize the best gains (exhaust set-ups) for our 335d vehicles.

I searched back 10 pages into this forum. I never found the guy i was looking for. His post is possibly embedded into another thread. I did find a member maned Rev335 that got 4" tips (made by Proflow) installed. The thread says DPF back exhaust so perhaps its him but pics are elsewhere.

2deer, your offer sounds interesting. I will have to think long and hard before doing a round trip to/from Albany, NY though. I'm 5 miles from Galveston bay :-)

Interesting. I thought shipping would be very high.

Do you have any design ideas for a 335d exhaust set-up?

You said it. CA needs to cut some slack on the diesels!

you guys should at least consider a pipe bigger than 3". I wouldnt be surprised if 3.5" is the right size for our application. Sadly the only way to test that would be to build two exhausts and test them back to back.

bug ecotune about getting their tune to trick the monitors. If they did that, you could get away with it in CA. It really shouldnt be that hard either if they just made the attempt. Once you get past the OBD test, its just visual on diesel and there is no way the smog tech would notice the DPF delete since the turbos pretty much block the above view and the undertray blocks the below view.

That's exactly what I was thinking Hoooper. What might be ideal for one type of car might be more restrictive on another. So 3" or 3.5" is the question.

I'm far from an expert when it comes to exhaust set-ups so perhaps someone else with more experience can chime in.

Downpipe diameter is 3". And according to tdi's research of the midpipe done prior, smallest section of the factory midpipe is 3". I highly doubt we need anything larger than 3" though but would be curious of the results.

The exhaust I am building will go from 3" to dual 2.5" pipes....
