See if my story will make you feel better:

Last year: I was out of town on the road and my cell phone rang - my wife hit the curb while negotiating a tight turn in a parking garage and damaged the left front winglet in my 530Xi M-Sport that was only 2 months old at that time. The whole front bumper had to be replaced.

This year: Two days after I took delivery of the brand new 335i convertible my wife decided to take it out to pick up the dry cleaning. When she came back there was a 2" long scrape on the edge of one of the rear wheels. She said she was busy trying to get re-aquianted with driving stick shift and hit a curb after she was cut off by a truck. Two days later there was a mysterious white scape mark on the passenger side mirror and at first she tried to blame it on me, then she said it must have been someone at work that did it while parking. The wheel is still waiting to be repaired and the mirror housing was repainted when I had the M-Tech body kit installed. A few day later there was a mysterious scape mark on the trunk emblem and I didn't bother to ask why.

And I am still married.
i applaud your patience. thats why when i throw my life away, there will be a his and her's vehicles, where her's is mine, and mine is well, mine

Well, I'm just looking for the best solution to deal with it. I'm still super P.O'd about the whole thing, but what the hell are you gonna do? It's done. Sucking about it or pitching a fit for a week isn't going to make my car new again.

Anyone tried acetone on the paint job. It sounds like something I could try, except I'm afraid of it taking off the clearcoat as well. Acetone is the main solvent in nail polish, no?

try a small patch first. then see if it takes off the clear coat. if not go right on with it. you'll most likely need to buff it with an orbital and rewax it afterwards..

Anyone with previous experience, help a brother out. I'm sick about it!

BTW, I'm in downtown Toronto.

what??? you filing a divorce over that?! c'mon man!!!

umm you can definitely take most of it out using a buffer like portercable

I thought one of the advantages of a stick shift was that no wife would ever want to drive your car.

Let's just put it this way, your bumper is already messed up might as well use the acetone can't get any worst.

Bravo. This imbecile has been about for barely two posts, and is already betting to become the biggest bigot on the board. That must be a record. Keep at it, my friend. You're well on your way there. (Must be a hit with the ladies, what with the attitude and all.)

As for the OP, I feel for your pain. It sucks to see your car get dinged and scraped up, but looking at the damage, it looks like the paint came off of the post your wife hit, rather than the other way around. Hopefully you'll be able to simply remove that yellow paint and rebuff the area. I thought I read somewhere in another thread that people used a different chemical besides acetone to remove paint transfers like that. I'll try to search a bit and see if I come up with anything.

Ouch! Good Luck on the fix. This is the reason why, I never let my wife or previous girlfriends drive my cars, not even my sister. Sorry to be a pig, but women do not pay attention when they drive. For them a car is just a mode of transportation.

Oh, and a stick shift helps in many cases.

What to do you ask??

Don't ever let your wife drive the nice car again.
I could see if she accidently backed up into one of those bright yellow poles that are occasionally in a blind spot when backing, but driving FORWARD into one!

No BMW driving for her.
And get her eyes checked!

actually, YES you can, in a town called Bountiful, B.C., you can have as many wives, children, grandchildren as you want and be a polygamist and marry your own cousins and have sex with 12 yr olds and then marry them too

Do you have or know someone who has a Porter Cable DAP or a rotary buffer. If so try and see if it buffs off. If primer is not showing it very well may.

My wife used to drive my 550, but she refused to drive my 335 knowing what a nutcase I am about this car. It is interesting how my wife and daughters get these dings and scrapes on their cars and mine remains pristine. I guess that protecting their car is not one of their top priorities in life.

Give me a break.

I bet if a friend of yours did that to your car you would freak on them but since it's your wife you should sit there and make sure not to say something that might hurt her feelings.

please

you guys need to go to your wifes and ask for your balls back.

Give him a little break. he's turning 14 soon and going through a tough time with his parents getting divorced. He must be pissed off at his mom and dad because now who's going to buy him his BMW when he gets his learner's permit.

OP, good luck getting the yellow out! Good attitude towards your wife too, it's cool that she drives a stick

Give denatured alcohol a shot first. It's not as bad as acetone, but might get the job done. I ran through a puddle of white paint on the interstate once and it worked like a charm to get the splatter off of my newly painted ride.

yeah man. lay off the 335i and get back on your wife...

it's a real shame to see any of these things happen . good luck with the situation and you seem calm enough about that you aren't yelling or anything. you'll be in no time!

on second thought, you could continue painting the rest of the car that way and have yellow racing stripes!
