Is Naviagation worth it???

I have two options: 1) Just the navigation systems in my car or 2) the sport package, satellite radio, and 6-disc changer. I am not sure which option. Is the navigation worth it, is it super helpful??

Don't get the navigation!

These are the reasons I didn't
1. I would never use it (pretty big reason lol)
2. It's confusing
3. All of those things you mentioned are much much better than navigation, especially the sport package

If you don't get anything else, get the sport package.

And I don't know if you know this but e90 lets you play mp3s, so to me, the CD changer is pointless. You can load all of your music onto one CD and won't have to bother with changing through 6 of them.

BTW, are you getting a 325i or a 330i?

BMWs navigation is pretty poor by comparision to good nav systems (ie, Toyota and Honda). I'd recommend option 2.

i think sport package alone is worth it because of the seats and the drop on suspension , and i would hardly ever use the navigation...but thats just me

I'd use the nav a lot in my line of work, plus, i like it... it's got it's 'toy factor', so why not??
Plus, i like that you can make some 'fine tine adjustments' to the car through the nav.
You can see a graphical display for the PDC on there... i dunno, it's quite sweet i think.

my $3.25i

Nikki's on the ball with the MP3 player, that's why i didnt get the sound system.

Don't even ask me why i didn't get the SP.

I would definitely get the sports package. It will give you the biggest upgrade per dollar of all the option packages. Other than that, I would pass on the satellite radio and cd changer, add a few more dollars and get the navigation (if it's within your means).

The navigation is my favorite non performance aspect of this car. It has saved me several times when I have been stuck in traffic. I can simply take the next exit and it will guide me through back roads I would have never known about. Spend a few minutes and read the manual and within a day, you should be very comfortable with the iDrive system and the navigation.

Michael

p.s. If you never get navigation, you probably won't miss it. But after having it, I can't imagine buying a primary car without it.

I use the NAV quite a bit in my line of work, and I love it. But I admittedly got most every option available 'cause I wanted all the "toys." If you don't have a need for it, and you're trying to cut unecessary costs, don't get it. The Sport Package was a must for me and well worth the cost IMO.

I use my navi almost everyday. I think its worth it. I would never buy a car w/o it again.

The nav is awesome when out of town and trying to find a place to eat or a particular store. But if its between nav and sport package, definately get the sport package unless you plan on changing rims or suspension later.

The same goes with auto dimming mirrors. If you haven't had it before, you probably will do fine without them in the future.

If you have navigation, it's hard to go back. If you have dimming mirrors, it's hard to go back.

The replies you'll get will be pretty predictable: folks w/o navigation will bash on it, while folks w/ the navigation will praise it.

Between the two choices, I'll probaly go with the second one (sports package).

One thing to note is that on the 3 series, the navigation package is more than just simply navigation because it includes i-drive+monitor. And to some (me included), the interior looks better with the monitor on there.

only someone without navigation would say this "It's confusing" you didnt give it a chance, why say this???

i think its worth it even if you dont use it often. theres a big difference interior. plus you can add a dvd player and watch tv on it....

if the grown men reviewing the car say it is confusing, i can't imagine what a 19 year old girl would think.

This all depends on how much cash you are willing to spend. If you can't afford sport and nav, get sport.

6 disk is silly in this car with the aux input and mp3 capability. Why waste money on a cool thing to have in 1990?

IMO, nav is for the folks who want all of the bells and whistles and can afford them. I would put nav just below sport and premium.

With the navigation, does it allow you to search for a restaurant or store or gas station, or must you know the address of your destination?

Navigation

My problem with any built in navigation is the fact it is built in.
Sell the car and you pay again for a new nav system. I have owned a Garmin iQue for over 2 years. Travels with me, goes into any car I drive and also works as a Palm. Used the nav portion in France this summer and worked magnifique. Cost $400-$500.
