Dodge Neon SRT-4 VS Auto e90 325i

last night i was driving down by south common (in edmonton, alberta, canada) down 23rd ave dropping off my cousin at his house when I run into this red SRT-4 driving around 80-90kmph so i decide to drive up beside him and then just pass him and stop at the red light up ahead of me. As soon as the light turns green this guy just launches past me in the lane beside me and makes it pretty clear what he wants to do. My cousin tightens his grip a bit and says, "alright man take a right here and forget about it and just drop me home." If that was wat happened, i wouldn't be making a topic right now, so as you guys can tell i switched from D to steptronic downshifted and sped up. The SRT-4 had already made a bit of distance so I sped up to and caught up to him for the next red light. He turned and nodded his head and grinned at me n put his thumbs up at me and revved his engine. As it was about to turn green i got ready, and BOOOM we were off. I kept up with him pretty good for the first 2 gears, he had half a car lenght ahead of me, but then managed to get away 2 car lenghts or so after the 3rd gear n won the race. I got smoked by an SRT-4, I must admit those are pretty quick cars so to that guy he was pretty cool.

hi desi786, the performance fig for SRT manual are as follows-

''' SRT4's turbocharged and intercooled 2.4-liter double overhead camshaft (DOHC) 16-valve 4-cylinder engine produces an impressive 230 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Producing that kind of power from a 2.4-liter engine is one thing, but few could make it work day-in and day-out like SRT4.
New Quaife automatic torque biasing (ATB) differential to help put the power to the ground
Dual-outlet exhaust system
0-60 in under six seconds with a 148 mph (electronically limited) top speed
High capacity clutch and pressure plate
Fully independent MacPherson struts on the front suspension ''

u were obviously asking to have your ass kicked , taking him on with a e90 325 step. your 218hp and 7.7 sec sprint time made it a one sided race. now i know why he grinned at u and nodded at u. he knew he could smoke u easily.

if i had a scooby Sti or evo 9, i would look for him for another rematch.

plus you can buy stage 1,2,3 from SRT and get TONS of extra hp for like $400 with the neon

it's a quick little car, sort of fruity though

the design sucks...the interior is so cheap looking...but then again...you are raping other cars in a car that costs $25k, so props to dodge! Another great ideal is that they are offering factory upgrades (ie stage 2,3,4) so that you spend your money w/ the manufacturer instead of aftermarket. Great strategy!

I am amazed that he didn't beat you sooner, my sister boyfriend just bought one of those, black. Granted it looks like the ass of an ugly terd, but he took me out in it the day he got it! That car pushes your head back to the seat! I would NEVER race one of those!

the srt-4 is meant to go very fast in a straight line. other than that your car is better in just about everyother way

i raced once with my e46 325i 5spd, with intake and exhaust... was drving at around 100km/hr.. and he's beside me... and we looked at each other for a sec. then i change gear from 5th to 3rd... and believe me... within a sec... the neon already pass by me and go for at least 2 car length and he turn smaller and smaller..... he actually wait for me to come up and try again... and is exactly the same... they are pretty fast...

this is debateable. a few minor adjustsments and the e90 can handle 10x better than it alrdy does (tires for one thing need to go).

try actually going to a non CCA autocross

maybe even look

http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2006/stockc.html

the E90 and SRT4 are in the same class as far as SCCA is concerned (D stock)

if you go to the "street prepared" classes

http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2006/stprepc.html

the neon goes up to CSP, while BMW stays in DSP

looks to me like the SCCA thinks stock it's even, but modded the SRT4 is better (at auto X)
