hard pull... codes thrown, limp mode, jb4 please help
Hey guys, so some quick back ground info if this helps:
I installed the jb4 ran map 1 for about 2-3 weeks ran great, switched to map 2 for about 4-5 days car still ran great. switched to map 5 on my way to work (about 25 min drive) car was hitting 15 maybe 16psi boost and was running great. On my way home from work I accelerated kinda hard through first and second and then when I went to slow down, got the check engine light and "reduced power" indicator in the idrive. rest of the way home car was VERY sluggish, like barely could go up a hill. Not sure if this was "limp mode" but car was unbelievably weak (way less power than stock and Map 4) I tried turning it off and back on, rough idle, running rough, shakes pretty bad. Won't build any boost like 2-3psi if i'm on the pedal over 50% and really weak. I got home and parked and started researching. I also switched to map 0 and map 4 and still runs horrible didn't change anything. some these descriptions I googled so forgive me if something below is incorrect. Codes thrown: P0103-Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit High Frequency P0203-Injector 3 Control Circuit P0303-Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected p0403-Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Solenoid Control Circuit P00aa-Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit (Bank 2) B2aaa-unknown Codes from JB4 30BA-I think I found injector bank 1 2F6C- Might just be from the unplugged exhaust valve actuator in trunk 29CF-Misfire cylinder 3 29CD-Misfire cylinder 1 29CC-misfire multiple cylinders Everything I've checked pretty much suggests check plugs and coils first. I was thinking check cylinder 3 first. Can I just swap coil packs in two cylinders and see if the code follows? Can I just replace one spark plug or one coil at a time and see if that fixes it? What else could it be? Car has 91k on it, not sure when the last time plugs or coils were replaced. Just bought it 4 months ago. Thanks in advance.

should change all plugs, might need a few coils swapped too i would change them in pairs of two if you dont want to fully replace all of them

when was the last time plugs/coils changed?
Edit, read your whole thread. I'd start by changing those plugs and coils as you don't even know when the last time they were changed Last edited by straightcashhomie; 03-19-2015 at 09:16 AM.. |

I think I'll try to change all the plugs first. from there might be able to narrow it down to if/which coil is causing issues. How often are the coils's supposed to be changed? I really hope it's not an injector or something they are like $250-$300 each or something.

Update- Changed spark plugs, went through a series of starting the car up, reading codes, seeing what came up, clearing codes, and repeating.
At one point, codes on my obd reader was just p0301 and p0302 (misfire cylinder 1 and misfire cylinder 2). I swapped coil packs a couple times and codes for misfires didn't seem to follow the coils or anything. After maybe a total of starting the car up 5-6 times and reading codes, clearing etc... back to the same codes I originally listed above. I've also researched about the 30BA code (listed above when I ran through the jb4 codes) and how it could be a damaged part in the DME-which may be worst case scenerio but I really hope that's not the case. Any help as to the next step to diagnose is appreciated. I figured it would probably a combination of coils, possibly an injector or the computer(DME). I figured If I kept seeing misfire codes, read codes and if misfired code followed the coil pack replace as needed and/or narrow it down to possibly an injector (but they are like $260/each)
