my engine oil temp gets upto 230-240 in less than 20 minutes during normal commute driving while it is only 55 degree outside, is this normal? it has never went over 240 mark though however even when i floor the gas a couple of times on the highway.

any thoughts thanks

I can speak for my N54 engine -- from reading other posts I've gathered that the engine cooling system kick in until your temp reaches 220-230 degrees (can't remember which). My car usually sits anywhere from 230-250 when I am driving on the highway for extended periods of time.

Mine's never gone above 250 though, even on humid, 95 degree days -- so I think you're probably good

240 is perfectly normal. My car, which unfortunately does not have an oil cooler, usually sits around there when it's fully warmed up and sometimes will even go up to 250 if I'm really hustling on the interstate. Nothing to worry about.

I have seen 270F on mine driving it hard on the Autobahn but that was expected at high speeds. Thermostat is set to maintain 240F and does a pretty good job on my car year round. Does take longer to warm the oil up when colder out but I seldom see above 250F even on hot days at highway speeds as had been reported above. I discovered BMW didn't add the aux cooler since I am not sport so I purchased it and had them add it once the car was back in the US...
You are good to go...

240 is the norm for our cars.

I have seen my 2011 E92 stay right around 250F when it is fully warmed up. I also have seen a dozen times when it barely moves HIGHER than 250. Not sure if that is normal. This is during normal driving conditions on the freeway, mostly stop and go traffic.

Should I bring it up to my SA next time?

Don't know if it's worth bringing it up. I mean it's only 10 degrees and in stop and go L.A sun I'm sure is brutal for the car that's why it might of raised a bit. However, I have never seen my car go above 240.
