Limp/Morning Start-up Problem

Been having a issue with morning starts/cold starts for the past couple of months and finally took my car in last week to get it checked out. They told me that the Low Pressure Fuel Pump was bad and that they would need to replace it to fix the problem. The also noted that the HPFP was fine.....So i get the car back the other day and guess what...Problem is still there. Started the car this morning and it was coughing like crazy and almost shut off on its on. It smoothed out for a second and then a LIMP code came up on my dash.

Q: Is there any way i can get that code read after restarting the car and having it go away? I know a GT1 can read and clear it, but the closest one to me is about 2 hours away.

Also, what other parts would be effecting this issue....Spark-Plugs? HPFP? Both?

based on your title I was afraid you were unable to satisfy your women in the morning. Glad that is not the case.

Does this happen with the car back to stock? Also, apply some throttle to see if it changes anything just after starting. But IMO, it sounds fueling related.

Yes, it happens stock. I applied throttle this morning and it continued to hickup and then the limp occurred.

I would side with being fuel related then. Unfortunately it looks like you will need to make the commute.

I would not cast anything in stone at this point. But as mentioned, it appears to be fueling related.

On a personal note, it looks like for those of us who will be long term owners, a set of tools for the fuel rail system will be a necessity. At least then, we should be able to help one another out as warranties expire.

well you could set up a price where OP can join and chip in for the tools, and when someone how needs it is on the list the tools can be shipped to each person in the group that chipped in and needs these tools...Once the Op that has the tools, holds onto them until the next one that needs it!! Great system i would say!

In the Audi/VW world, there is a VAGCOM list so people can find other locals to help log and diagnose. In the BMWCCA membership, this is a similar but less descript thing.

I'll have my own tools as I hate waiting. But I will always offer my help when a fellow enthusiast needs it.

Yeah I understand, but I was saying if the tools were needed from OPs out of state like myself in New York! Chipping in for tools is very cost effective for everyone that joins because I think not every single member will need these tools all at once!

I certainly agree. It is a great way to share the expense and allow many access to something they will rarely, if ever, use.

Yes the key words are rarely use, and when it does come time to use it, it would cost you almost nothing because the expense is feathered off between all OPs that have contributed! Someone should start a service for something like this, but the members must pass a vigorous id check!!!!lol

Sounds like your fuel pump is bad, same happened with mine. And if you have 30k+ mi, change your spark plugs too.
