Estate agent board cracked my windscreen

The flat below us was up for sale. Few weeks back there was heavy wind and the For Sale sign post collapsed. In process it hit my windscreen and cracked it. I moved the board to aside but few days later someone put the board back up.

Now, I rang up the estate agent and explained the situation and sent the picture of the crack. They came back and said theres no evidence that their sign post caused the crack and they have no record of any one putting the sign post back up. No surprise there!

Obviously I want them to settle the claim and don't want to go through my insurance as it will hike my premium. How can I proceed with this?

Im sharing the house with other house mate who will provide evidence that the board was down but how can I prove it was their board which cracked it?

Anyone fortunate enough to go through this annoying process?

Any input appreciated.

Unless you caught it on CCTV which I gather you didn't from your post, I'd say you were screwed I'm afraid.

Would a windscreen claim really bump up your premium? That's your only option I think.

Im afraid it does in London. I claimed 2/3 years ago and they bumped my premium at renewal. It counts as a claim regardless.

Apparently they do for companies I've just read. Swift for one.

Direct line insurance: Windscreen replacement is not counted as a claim. London is not listed as a claim per se. This is down to the individual insurers and should be confirmed prior to taking out insurance

As said with no cctv you are up the creak without a paddle and windscreen depends on insurer. I made a windscreen claim with swift recently and it made no difference to my premium come renewal time.

If i was in your shoes i would have started taking pics as soon as you saw the crack, was the sign on top of your car or near it on the ground, pictures like that help in situations like this...

Estate agents don't put their own signs up, they contract the work to a specialist company.
This is what I do for a living.
I'm pretty certain that they are lying when they say they have no record of the sign going back up. How would the contractor know it was down unless the agent told them?
Unfortunately signs do cause damage occasionally , if I get notification from an agent that it's happened, I personally go see the person. I can usually tell if the person is genuine or not ,and if I feel the damage was caused by the sign, I'll rectify it.
However, that's just me, I believe in being straight and honest.

I own an Estate Agency and this has only happened once to us we had a call from un upset lady saying our Sold board has hit her pride and Joy a little Audi A1. I myself went and had a look and said get it booked in at your preferred place and we will pick up the bill. Luckily my Boardman agreed to pay for the work to be carried out and once the work was completed we delivered flowers to say sorry for any inconvenience.

I know this doesn't help the OP out but for me i wish more people would just be honest except responsibility and deal with the issue.

All the agents i know use a online board system which will store all the boards ordered to be put up and taken down so i would be surprised if the agent in question doesn't have this?
