'Ordinary' diesel...
Had to fill up just before the weekend as I had put it off for days due to the strike hype and I was running on fumes. I have used V Power diesel for months now, because it makes the car run noticeably smoother and quieter - but of the 3 Shell stations I tried, 1 didn't have a V Power diesel pump, and 2 had none left.
I had to fill up with a full tank as I needed it for the coming few days, and had to settle for Shell Fuelsave diesel. Jesus, I can't wait to use it up and be rid of it again! The engine is loud and rattly, throttle response at low revs is coarse, and it feels generally sluggish I know it's an extra 8p a litre for V Power, but that's only £5 a tank, which is £20 extra on a bad month. That's a price I'll happily pay to enjoy driving my car again.

totally agree!
i thought the one tank would last me till the v max drought but no signs in my 3 local shells i thought it was in my head but i've noticed a power loss, coarseness esp in lower gears and generally doesn't feel as smooth... |

Must admit I haven't tried it in the 330 yet, I certainly can't say the engine in mine is loud and rattly its always been silky smooth and quiet, if its more so with V Power I'm not fussed, but if it gives better MPG then perhaps its worth it for the said smoothness?
I wonder if it isn't a placebo effect.. If you were blind folded could you really tell? Tried V Power diesel in my Audi a few times and I can't say I ever noticed a difference. |

I'm sorry but I don't see the difference, I always use normal BP diesel and I've once filled up with BP Ultimate but honestly cannot tell the difference, yes MPG went up but only by 0.3 compared to before.

I've never tried it either - not sure whether to or not.

I've used both in the GT and can't tell the difference if I'm honest.

To be honest, I just fill my car up with whatever diesel is available.
I'm now curious so I may have to fill her up with a tank of V Power diesel next time.. Are your cars standard or mapped? (Not even sure if that would make a difference, just a general question) |

my car isn't mapped ... yet
i did a few weeks of testing some years ago i spent the same amount of money on fuel (vmax and non) and got similar mileages over similar trips to and from work. i did this a few times each so it wasn't the after effects of either fuel. i concluded the more expensive stuff was worth it but i've also heard but dont quote me (not sure if it was something i read or a TG review) that the additives in vamx "help" the engine last longer and run better???? anyway i'm sticking with vmax on the fact the "extra cost" is not actually any extra because it gets more miles ... so being fairly similar in terms of value and ... more importantly 20 quid extra per month is pennies esp when you compare a night out you woulndt bat an eyelid at paying for a round of drinks ... lol |

I run on V-power on mine in the end. Definitely felt more spritely on the good stuff.
Found the same with V-pow pow on the M3 too.

Wow right last time of trying to reply:
My car reduces power if the RON is lower than 98 (V-Power) iirc. It's in the manual and I wouldn't be surprised if its the same for diesel. |

Due to the poss up-n-coming delivery prob now on my 2nd tank of BP ultimate and it's not so good. (It's my nearest garage)
Lacks the get-up-n-go I am used to using Shell V-power. Cant wait to get rid of the BP ultimate! |

I've never noticed a difference.
I use the cheap stuff. Over the course of a year the difference will pay for the remap

In theory sticking one tank in won't make any noticeable difference. After a few tanks the car adapts to the better fuel. When you then stick the normal diesel in the car isn't happy.

placebo IMHO.
I use V-Power or Ultimate Diesel in both 640d and 320d, and also regular, and cant tell any difference. I though the main difference on the diesel was just cleaning additives? I'd also agree it would take a good tank of the stuff to mix with remainder of previous and for the engine to take any benefit (if there was any)? |

The Vpower stuff is better for the engine but unless your car has been mapped for 99RON (or whatever it is now), you wouldn't notice a real difference.

I don't get that mate. Big performance Denzil but so tight that you stick standard juice in it!
