Hi All,

I purchased my 335d in nov 09 with 63k on the clock, its a 2006 August build E92.

As soon as it was purchased I had it remapped by Ecospeednorth/motechperformance and I now have 68.5k on the clock.

I've had no issues really, the odd electrical warning popped up (one big fat red one) but went away after a restart of the engine, never to return.

I did hear good things about this engine and thats why I risked plumping with a high miler.

Whats the highest mileage 335d out there? Hows it going?

Mines an e90 330d, on a 06 plate, and thats on 122k !!

After a few electrical issues and a new PS Pump, its now running fine

64k, 0ver 150 full bore standing starts over the 1/4mile. + many many more Standing starts, doughnuts, burnouts (sorry yes I know its idiotic). Few track days, 3 ring trips and a Magazine top speed thrash at Brunters.

DMS re-map. One reliable mo fo the 335d!

Mine's loosened up nicely; was 311 bhp stock at 38k miles

Mines an Nov 06, and its got 72k on the clock. Had 40 on it when I bought it last May. Still drives like the day I got it, and drove another mates 335d the other which was only a few months old and felt the same. So shows the engine is a stonker!!!

I know of a 57 plate with 100k miles on the clock (sales manager), no problems whatsoever.

His colleague got a new one as of '09 and turbos have gone at around 34k miles. They changed their supplier/manufacturer of turbos apparently? and are proving to be less reliable. All fixed under warranty but he's had other niggling faults. Maybe he's been unlucky......who knows.

Mine is a 58 plate Jan '09 (build date Dec/2008), wonder if I will run into issues...

Not one mate. Just the Oily red boost hose. Which was re-seated. But did do it again.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

All I know is what this bloke has told me, not to say yours will be affected. He has noticed though that the older 335d seems to be better screwed together but he's gone over both cars with a fine tooth comb.

His biggest clue was oil consumption btw.

My E92 335d didn't have any mechanical problems but then it only had about 9k miles on it when I sold it, don't know why I didn't keep it longer really. The seat belt butler, drivers side packed up and a sticking headlight washer, which is or was a known fault, and I'm sure the drivers seat used to 'rock' a bit sometimes. The SOS thing packed up sometimes if I'd been on the phone for a longish time (women talk - never ), but then restored itself again eventually. Probably one of those bloody pesky software updates BMW seem to be obsessed with.

The S5's can have a clutch thrust bearing issue but again mine isn't affected but a few have been. Always the 'risk' with mass produced motors imo, but that's what a warranty is for together with a firm but polite disposition when dealing with dealers.

Thats an E92 issue, not a 335d issue Helen,

The 335d lump and turbo is pretty solid, as is the drive train.

I am a testement to that for sure.

Hi mate,

Under the bonnet at the front, the is a red flexi boost hose. This comes away ever so slightly under load and a fine mist of oil is released and covers the hose. This then makes the hose become grimy and black. They can be re-seated with a new clip by a dealer but this is not a great solution as it will come away again as mine did.

You want the new hose and clip fitted! There is a PUMA case for this.

This blokes turbo has gone - end of and the service manager, whom he knows quite well was honest and said it's not the first 35d where the turbos have gone. He even ordered them based on my mate telling him it was using a lot of oil and he hadn't even seen the car to diagnose the problem for sure. Tells you something I reckon.

Helen loads of 335d turbos have blown and 535d etc.. But generally speaking the 35d engine is bullit proof. So I wouldnt put someone off a 335d because a small minority have had turbo's die. Such a small percentage.

Same thing cant be said of the 335i unfortunately.
