Dumb question: What is a muffler Delete

I am ready for a possible flaming?!?

A few friends of mine recently got muffler deletes done on their cars and the cars sounds great. What does it mean to get a muffler delete and what does it entail? Does it add hp or is it just for the sound? Will I pass emissions? Should I have a friend or a shop do it? Will void my warranty or anything?

Thanks ! Sorry I know these are basic question

muffler delete = deleting (i.e., removing) the mufflers and replacing it with a straight pipe...

Haha you guys are brutal acting like you knew what a muffler delete was right out the womb

Replace the muffler with a straight pipe

Very minimal hp, mostly for sound

Shouldn't affect emissions since you're not touching the catalytic converters

A shop should probably do it not a friend

Warranty depends on your dealership, probably shouldn't be a problem

Simply cut off the mufflers weld on pipes with tips.
Heard it in person, and for the price, you really cant beat it.

1.It means to remove the muffler section of the exhaust and replace it with standard piping
2.No hp gains, only to make your car loud as fuck
3.Yes you will pass smog, cops may give you a ticket and maybe a dick smog tech may give you trouble
4.If your friend has the tools it's a pretty straight forward procedure
5.No will not void your warranty

+1, we all came to this forum to a) share the knowledge we have and b) learn what we don't know.

Having said that, OP, it would probably be beneficial to use the function. I haven't even checked but I would be very surprised if this hasn't been explained before.

I'm getting a muffler delete done this weekend and confirmed with a shop back home that does inspections that they would be willing to pass me. If you look around hard enough you can find a place that will pass you (muffler in NC is necessary to pass inspection). Bonus: muffler delete doesn't delete any of your cats so you pass emissions. Most likely you could even get by with deleting your secondary cats as well because most cars only have one cat and we have two
