I took it off mine because I was not getting boost either, with it on after the first 3rd gear pull I was only getting 7-8 psi when it should have been 15-16 psi. Removed it and all is well. I think the spring slid down near the wastegate and blocked full motion of the actuator arm.

yea i feel like this will only help those whos rod itself is the problem but for others who hits the actual flap not closing properly with wont do us any good.

Anybody ever try one of those VW clips? They're $41 from ECStuning, I might be able to reach the front turbo actuator from under the car, but its worth trying on the rear one

I have invented a new approach!!!!

I found some play in the hinge that leads into the valve, i decided to take up the slack by inserting a "gasket". The pictures should help clarify. This finally helped the noise be reduced by 80%[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Interesting, where did you find those gaskets? i'll have to get under the car next weekend and play with it.

those are metal gaskets from an old engine, i cut them in a way so they slide in and self clamp, NOTE!!! (its very important to flatten the metal gasket by hitting it with a hammer because if you don't the gasket will be too snug and may prevent the actuator from moving the lever back and forth.)!!!! look closely at the picture and you will see how wide the opening has to be.(about the thickness of a bmw key.) I was able to reach the front turbo one as well by using a very long needle nose plier and just slid it in.

Update : Spring didn't help it at all. 0. I even tried using more pressure. Still nothing. I only checked the startup rattle, didn't bother going around to try it.

I tried the spring method on the rear turbo this morning. It might have helped reduce the rattle by a tiny tiny bit but it was not a solution for me.
Disappointing for sure, thought I think something along the lines of what M-powered did will work better for me.

When I was wiggling the arm around with my hand I could feel the play, which seemed to be coming from where the waste gate arm extends out of the body of the turbo.

M-powered, where could I find a gasket like what you used?

+1 mine i can wiggle that area with my fingers so i'm assuming a washer or maybe that gasket could solve my rattle

I have off next week on vaca maybe i'll tinker with a gasket, but i'm not sure where to find a gasket small enough.
