N51 Motor Mounts

Quick Summary :

Take my car to the dealership on a no-start issue, they do an inspection of the car fix it and tell me i have bad motor mounts among other things. (6k for all repairs, kidding?) Anyways, like any sane person i told them no.

I was looking at the motor mounts in the engine bay but i can't seem to figure out a way to get to them, i know i'd have to lift the car first and remove the protective covering but other than that i'm stumped. Are their any DIY's for this?

Look up the Oil Pan Gasket DIY - you have to loosen the motor mounts to get access to the pan, so it will give you the steps for removing them.

Garage List
1992 Honda Beat  [9.50]
2008 BMW 128i  [10.00]
2014 BMW 528i  [10.00]
The driver's side top nut I got from the side through the wheel well

The passenger side I just used like 3ft in extensions, you can look right at it from the top.

The subframe must be lowered and the engine suspended.

I did this while I did the oil pan gasket and it went smoothly.

I'll try this, I also have a leaky oil pan gasket and oil change service coming up soon, might as well just do everything at once then.

Do you happen to know the torque specs for the pan?

You can do side by side with out suspending the engine. Loosen up both top nuts on the engine mounts. Remove the top nut on the engine mount you want to remove first. Place a piece of wood under the oil pan and raise the engine until. Remove the mount. Replace the mount. Loosely put the nut. Remove the nut on the opposite side. Repeat. I have done few, including my own. Not very difficult.
