Well, I just got my car back with new turbos installed (under warranty) and new vacuum solenoids. Expecting it to feel like new, I was happy to get on the highway....but something feels off. Like I am not making full boost consistently. No way to log, car is stock for now. One weird observance- in third gear, WOT, the rpms would climb non-linerally ( fast-slow-fast-slow-fast-slow), but this phenomenom ceased after driving for a while. Yet, no CEL's or SES's So:

1) Is this just getting used to a stock car?
2) Is there some sort of break-in for the turbos before they will operate fully?
3) Could this be a boost leak somewhere, or what else could it be?

Most likely the ECU was reset so it has to relearn everything.

If it continues, I would bring it right back to the dealer and take them for a drive and show the issue...

Ecu is usually good about throwing codes. That said I'd have driven the car right back.

Sounds like the dealer made a stupid mistake by blocking your waste-gate actuator arm with the v-clamp on the DP's. Check yourself or go back to the dealer...it is an easy fix if that's it. GL

you would throw underboost or overboost codes. maybe your car had a flash tune on and now they reflashed to stock.

This gets thrown around too much. The ECU does not have to 'relearn' enough to make enough of a difference to feel it. The only thing it makes permanent adjustments to are the PID files for the WGDC control. Its not like its changing timing advance or vanos angles or anything. I could be totally out in left field here, but I just don't see it.

OP,

Did your car have a tune prior to the turbo replacement?

The dealer could have updated the factory software to the latest version, which a lot of folks do not like.

the combination of no aftermarket tune and the new factory software version could make the car feel slow.

I think this is it. I have tried, tried, tried to get it to throw a code. No dice. Went back to the dealer, and the foreman and I went for a ride. Car definitely feels faster from the passenger seat. I think it's all in my head. I was sooo used to 400+ whp that yeah, the car feels muted. On the plus side, I've never heard an N54 that didn't rattle, so it is really weird to just hear the engine now, even on decel. Time to put everything on + flex fuel.

Dyno the car if you need confirmation of the power you're making. Butt dynos are about as accurate as weathermen.

Yes, but those 2 things you just mentioned make a difference in how the car "feels" even though it may not make any more/less power, just feels like it is.

it is more likely that the driver was adapting :-)

Nice, I'm going to use that quote from now on.

A stock 335 is slow, anyway.

Just don't go full WOT on your trip to the gas station.

I can confirm this. I too had turbo actuators, all injectors, and coils replaced at the same time, under warranty (work done @37K). This work required upgrading the car's software which made the car lethargic. Placed the Vishnu V5 back in, proof, back to normal plus more.
