Was it a run-flat? How many miles were put on it after it lost pressure?

surprisingly very good, not even a dent. it only got that bad about 2 miles away from wher ei was going. The tire was already screwed up, it had bubbles along the interior sidewall, kept having to put air in it everyday.

The fun part is getting that off the wheel... Unless it just fell off for you.

i know, the guy had to use that machine that squeezes the sidewall when you are removing a tire from the wheel, and wiggle the paddle in between the rubber and the rim, all the way around, he did it pretty fast actually. the machine did most of the work.

We dont have one of those at my work, just watching the tire tech spin the wheel on the machine was quite amusing. He was getting so frustrated.

tell me about it. it got really bad about 2 miles from my destination, i felt the tire pop, got off and saw smoke coming from the wheel well, not a lot, like a cigarette was burning, but if i didn't get to where i was going, i ws going to have to get the car towed.

What tire brand was it? I wonder if it was a cheap one. Also was it a summer tire? Z rated tires have pretty stiff sidewalls and even after they are deflated they tend to keep the car anywhere from a 0.5" to 1" off the ground.

I've driven on flat tires a million times and never had that happen to me. Did you possible make a hard turn?

$341.00, Pirelli PZero, no not cheap and almost brand new, only had about 800 miles on it. it did hold up the wheel pretty well which is probably why it didn't screw up the rims.

and i don't see how a turn could of caused that, it was a rear mounted tire.

That was where YOU failed. You should have stopped right there and went back to where you got the tires from as thats a manufacture defect. You cant prove it anymore because the tire is torn apart.

You should have known better, shame on you. Anytime theres a bubble in a tire it could cause a fatal situation.

Well that's disheartening to hear a tire of that caliber fell apart that quick. Good thing it saved your wheel!

funny, thats actually what my plans were. I got the tires from tirerack, when i did my alignment last week we saw the bubbles along the sidewall, so i didn't want to wait another 4 days for another tire. i called everywhere in Miami and they were out of stock. as soon as they came in i went to swap them out, and this happened. its kinda hard to do as you said when you only have one set of wheels.

its a 25 series tire, its surprising how nothing happened. oh, well. now at least i have a backup in case it happens again. i bought 2 more tires, swapped the bad one, as well as the other one, the used one i took off, i have at home.

Ouch, that tire is toast!

Glad you didn't destroy the rim. Any pic of the wheel?
