Support Group for those doing PCD

It's been said that we have a longer time to delivery from Germany than those that don't choose to do PCD but I'm a firm believer that good things come to those that wait. This is the place where you can vent or whine and not have those not as fortunate as us, praise their new rides without taking our feelings into consideration.

As for me, now that I've finally received my date for PCD, a little of the stress that has been mounting has been eased. Now I can go about my business and try to get back to normalcy, whatever that may be.

My airfare is booked, my rental car for the drive to Greenville has been reserved and life is good.

What's your story?

I'm also looking forward to PCD. My CA got the email below from the Performance Center so I believe that I'm either on a ship or will be very soon. It's kind of strange in my case because, as of Friday, the 800# says "in transit" and OC says "En Route" yet I don't show on Liberty or on Courage (next one to leave).

"Thank you for your recent Performance Center Delivery reservation for Mr. Jacques Monier, production number 3584xxx. We would like to offer May 2, 2007 as a delivery date to the customer, with arrival in South Carolina the evening prior. Please contact me to advise if they would like to accept this date. I may be reached either by e-mail or by phone.

If your customer is a resident of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia there is a South Carolina first use tax that applies to them. This is a use tax of $300 upon the first use of a new vehicle in South Carolina. This first time use tax will not be collected by your retail center or the BMW Performance Center. Should the State decide to collect the tax from out of state consumers, it would be billed by the State of South Carolina and payable directly to the same. To our knowledge the State has never collected this tax. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Because of production schedules, weather, and other unforeseeable circumstances, we won’t be able to confirm your customer’s delivery date until two weeks prior to their arrival. Please advise your customer that travel arrangements should not be made until this time.

Please inform your customer that BMW Manufacturing has temporarily cancelled public tours of the factory while new models are under development. We are very excited about the new developments for the plant and we hope you understand the need for us to protect company secrets. Information about new models and a date for the resumption of public tours will be announced at the appropriate time. --- NOTE: At this time tours are open to our delivery guests on a limited basis. We are taking this day to day as we hear from BMW Manufacturing on availability.

Please be advised that some required forms and processes have been changed. Therefore, please use only the forms sent to you and discard any other pre-printed forms you may have.

Also, any BMW accessories that the customer would like to have installed here at the Performance Center prior to delivery must be ordered by the client advisor at least two weeks before their scheduled delivery date. Payment must be made by the BMW Center prior to delivery. An accessory request form will be faxed to you once the customer has accepted a delivery date."

Did you put your VIN on the auto cargo tracking site?

Yes, I've been trying to do it ONLY 4 or 5 times a day but I haven't been entirely successful at that.

It took 48 hours after the ship left Bremerhaven to show up on the auto cargo tracking site.

I just go an email from my CA. Apparently it left 3/14 and will get into Charleston 3/25. He couldn't get the ship name but it looks like I'll beat Liberty in by 5 days. It must not be a Wallenius ship.

Funny you say that... I have previously demonstrated the off road capabilities of an M5!

Lesson learned - I now check to make sure the rear tires have rubber instead of cords showing before I take it out. 500 horses going to the rear tires which have no rubber = very interesting ride.

6FL IPod/USB

Anyone with the 6FL on your car should be aware of Jonathan's post on Bimmerfest about the iPod adapter cable availability at the PC:

"It will be provided here when you take delivery of your vehicle. They are ordered when our service department does the PDI on the vehicle (ED vehicles are not PDI'd here).

"Having said that, it is possible that the part may not be available at the time of delivery or be on backorder (in that case we have to ship it to you once we receive it). The X5 rear headsets are obtained the same way, and it took about 2-3 weeks after we started delivering them before BMW published a bulletin with the part #'s. Availability was very limited on those in the begining."

Thanks for that info Jacques. I'm sure LEDZEP will be interested since he ordered the 6FL option.

I'm finding that my CA is useless. He never seems to have any answers for me. He's a super nice guy, but I think he's pretty new to BMW world. I like working with him but he doesn't seem to know how everything works. He told me that I'm his first PCD customer. I feel like I know a lot more than he does with PCD...just by visiting these forums. Each time I visit these forums it's like going to a tharapy session. I told my CA he really needs to join some of BMW forums.

Anyway, I called BMWNA yesterday and it seems like my 335i is scheduled for week 15 production (April 9th, I think). My order was placed on Feb 26. It seems like my order was based on my dealer's April allocation. It seems so far away.

I'm hoping for late May PCD. I requested for May 25th. My CA was told that the date is open and I think he was told that it should work out. I guess there was a cancellation. I hear that Friday pickups are not ideal, but with my work schedules, I need to include a weekend for drive back to Chicago. I would think picking up the car at PCD on any day of the week is MILLION times more fun than picking it up at the local dealership.

I went crazy waiting for my 325xi 3 years ago, but THIS wait is much worse. The 335i is so much fun to drive (I test drove it 3 times...just cuz). I can't wait for the day I leave for PCD.

My wife's been very supportive so far. She probably knows more about the car and PCD than my CA. Even my 4 year old son knows the car. It's just crazy! And I know I'm driving my business partner crazy. He just ignores me when I bring up the "BMW PCD". He pretends to listen, but I know he's praying that I stop.

I actually had a dream the other day that my wife and I went to PCD to pickup the car. But then realized we didn't make any arrangement for someone to watch our 2 boys (2 yr old and 4 yr old). Man, I'm a bad father.

OK - I feel a little better...for now.

I have similar reservations about my CA as you. Nice guy but I seem to have more info from the internet than what he knows. Don't get your heart set on any particular date for PCD. Unless your car gets to SC at least 6-8 weeks before the date you have in mind, the date you will be offered is presented to you after your car actually gets on a ship in Bremerhaven. I asked for a particular date 2 months from when my car was scheduled for production and didn't get offered a date until last week when it was on the water. I don't know about Fridays being a bad day but it is the most requested day because of the upcoming weekend. I had requested a Tuesday and was offered a Friday so I guess in the end it will all work out. You're right though....any day for PCD has to be a great one!

With a 4/9 start of production, it's doubtful that you will get to the port before 4/17. If that's the case these are your options:
Origin Port Departure Destination Port Arrival Vessel Voyage Transit(Days)

BREMERHAVEN 16/04/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 05/05/2007 LIBERTY EB716-LIB 19
BREMERHAVEN 23/04/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 12/05/2007 COURAGE EB717-COG 19
BREMERHAVEN 30/04/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 19/05/2007 INTEGRITY EB718-ITG 19
BREMERHAVEN 07/05/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 26/05/2007 FREEDOM EB719-FRE 19
BREMERHAVEN 14/05/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 02/06/2007 PATRIOT EB720-PAT 19
BREMERHAVEN 21/05/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 09/06/2007 LIBERTY EB721-LIB 19
BREMERHAVEN 28/05/2007 CHARLESTON,SC 16/06/2007 COURAGE EB722-COG 19

I would guess that you will be on the Courage that leaves Bremerhaven on 4/23 with arrival in Charleston on 5/12. A 5/25 PCD looks tight but may not be impossible. Keep an open mind. Best of luck!

There are also K-Line ships that carry BMW's to Charleston only. See www.kline.com - Franconia is one, my car is on it right now. There's no VIN tracking, however, you have to check with your CA.

Thanks guys for the great info.

STE92VE, I agree...I'm not sure about 5/25 PCD. It does seem pretty tight. I wouldn't be surprised if my pickup date is in June. I was hoping that the car would be built in March. Oh well. At least I'm several weeks closer now. Glad to see that you got your date set.

Finally got my signature set...

I posted this question to the "How much are people paying for the E92 Coupes?" Then I found this one, and is seems more appropriate. So sorry for the double post, but:

I'm picking my 335i coupe up at the performance center in a couple of weeks. I was just told by my dealer that BMW requires that all cars be paid for 2 weeks prior to PC delivery, and since I'm leasing, that means that my lease will start 2 weeks prior to deliver. It doesn't seem fair that my lease should start before I take delivery of the car. I complained, and they said they went to BMW and got a "special exemption" for me to start the lease only one week prior to delivery.

Has anyone else gotten this same story?

Anf, that doesn't seem correct. If your lease was going to start before you took delivery, then you would have financial responsibility from that point on and you would be required to insure the vehicle at that point. I know that when doing ED, you must pay for the car prior to delivery, but BMW covers the insurance until you get it back into the US.

The fact that they said they got a "special exemption" should raise a flag and I guess that's why your seeking help here. Give BMWNA a call and get verification of what your dealer is telling you.

I'm purchasing my E92 w/PCD and I expect that it it has to be paid for before delivery. The performance center needs to be sure they are releasing the car with all paperwork completed prior to 2 weeks whether for lease or purchase. I don't think you should be expected to be responsible for the car when it is not in your possession, that's why I won't have my insurance in effect until I take physical delivery.

The date your lease should start, should be the date you take delivery. Let me know how it works out for you.

I know how you feel about your CA. I have a similar situation. First he told me that PCD wasn't available for the 335i. So I went to the BMWNA web site and printed out the info for him. Every time I had a questions, he had to ask his manager. Fortunately, I found this site and have been getting much better info than I ever could from him . But in the end, I tell myself that all I need to do is be patient a little while longer and things will work out.....unless that means I have already gone crazy from the wait and I'm hopeless!

I'm sure there are some CAs that are good, just like there are some that are not. It's unfortunate when the guys that want to know every little detail about the process get the bad ones, like us! It just really frustrates the crap out of us. Whenever I have communication with my CA, I feel like I know more than him and I even told him the name of the ship that was bringing my baby to the states.

It would have been a little less anxious with a real pro, but it was fun taking the challenge and getting the info myself.

With no disrespect to the BMW pros, but with the knowledge I have attained, I wish we were able to order the car directly from BMW and have access to the info that the CAs have. That would be

Thanks for your reply. One thought I've had is that they have to take care of the registration before I pick up the car. This probably can't happen before I buy it, so they may need a little buffer. Also, if you're paying by check, they may want to have time for the check to clear.

I'll follow up with BMWNA today.

Has anyone else gotten this same story?

anf,

Please see the attached document that the CA receives from us as a "checklist" for their customer doing PCD. We do have to receive all the paperwork before your delivery, but it doesn't have to be 2 weeks early (this is a typical misconception due to ED).

Hope this helps! Looking forward to meeting you.
