Need a new TV.. Help!!
Okay ... so as above really.
I need a new TV as im moving out and want spend not much, but get something decent. So: 40-42 inch Price max is £400, but £350 would be preferred Must be smart TV. Seen this: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...67504-pdt.html and this: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...pdt.html#cat-0 which both seem to fit the bill and reviews on both look ok. Any thoughts?

What do you want from the TV? Movies, PS3/Xbox
FWIW - i picked up a great 50" LG for £400. It's a plasma so not as sleek or lightweight as the ones you've listed. But the picture is fantastic. |

Just tv/movie watching and xbox playing for a 6yr old.
42 is the max screen size the room will take without it looking really out of place tho.

The other question is 3D? I've got 3D tv's and never use 3D so i'm not assuming you or your kid will. But worth asking. |

The Sony one would the choice for me at exactly £400.
If you can stretch a bit more i'd pick one with a 5 year guarantee. Saying that i have bought about 60 TV's over the past 15 years for work and only had 2 failures. One plasma was smashed (so not exactly a failure) and other was a rear projection which kept failing and eventually John Lewis gave me cash back to take it away and stop fixing it! Saying that i still try to get a 5 year guarantee included in the price where poss. Which means I usually buy from Richer Sounds, John Lewis and Currys. Also keep an eye out on Hot Deals UK. eg Sainsbury's have been selling TV in store really cheap and hence John Lewis have been price matching and selling great TV's with 5 year guarantees for good prices. But if all that is too much hassle. The Sony |

Ended up with a Sony KDL42W705B .... managed to get it for £290 from Sony Outlet... well chuffed with that, so enough left over to get a soundbar in the budget

or http://www.richersounds.com/product/...sams-ue40h5500 Job done.....for that budget, it's as good as it'll get. TBH, you might be better saving an extra £50 -£100 and getting a 3D enabled TV. Even if you don't care for 3D (like me), the 3D TVs have far superior processing power, and usually a higher refresh rate - 100hz+, and so even regular 2D pictures will look better. Like these: http://www.richersounds.com/product/...0v/lg-42lb650v http://www.richersounds.com/product/...sams-ue40h6400 Don't forget the majority of display panels themselves are made by LG or Samsung, just that different manufacturers use different chipsets attached to them. Which is why Sony/Panasonic you are paying for the name more than ever - at least back in the day of regular tube TVs, it was often worth paying the premium because they were genuinely better. BTW, the LG 3D tv we have, I never use the 3D, but it DOES have a rather entertaining "dual play" feature for gaming, where 2 players can play full screen wearing the 3D glasses, and each person can only see their own car/character/scene. |
