Return to the fold...

So after 18mths of an F30 330d, I'm coming back....

The F30 has been a great car, faultless and fast - I had the MPPK kit fitted which upped things to 290hp/600nm.
Before this 330d I had an E91 335d and they isn't a lot between them - I'd actually say the F30 is fractionally quicker which a lot is no doubt down to the new 8 speed box - it is very impressive.

But as good as it is, the lure of the E9X was too much so I've bought another 335d!
Bar the backwards step with a few things (audio, Nav, gbox), I'm excited about coming back

I'll have to scowl all the old threads to remember the 'how to' kinda questions but that's part of the fun too!
Roll on collection next week......

Congrats I think. Any more reasons for the move back to the E9* as from what you say the F30 seems an all round better car.

These E9x cars are like a classic generation. For me, the last non-M car with twin turbos and not to many models have this amazing DCT box.

Ive sold the F30 privately

The F30 is a good car but it's very "new".
Its great for going from A to B but there is no drama to it.
I'm not saying a 335 is dramatic beyond recognition but they are definitely more rewarding to drive.
As too was the E90 in fairness, it's the reps car of choice and it feels like other car on the road is an F30 (especially Estoril blue ones!) so when the chance of an E91 335d came along, it was an easy decision.
I loved the E9X range, especially the E91.

Opting for an F30 and not F31 is a regret too as although I don't need a touring, I prefer them so this is another plus

My biggest concern about changing is the audio in E91 - ive got HK at the moment so it's going to be a serious downgrade....

That's fair reasoning and good to see people make those choices and not just stick with something because it's newer or portrays a wealthier image etc.

As for the audio I guess it's the start of the mods then lol

Thanks, its always nice when someone agrees with what you're doing - my wife on the other hand just doesn't get why id want to change from a 2014 car for a 2010 - its border line snobbery!

I'm not one to mod to be honest, I like things to look factory.
I'll remap it but that's about it.

I'd really like to do something about the stereo but again, like things to look factory so I wouldn't want amps and subs and all that jazz everywhere - guess i'll just have to put up or shut up!

Hi mate,

Audio wise it's big money but you don't need anything to NOT look standard.

I've got a bit one.1 which takes a high level input and outputs via RCA to amps .. it's also a digital EQ.

I have a 3 way front setup with a big rear sub and apart from the sub in the boot you'd have NO IDEA it wasn't standard ..

Downside is the cost of the install was >5k. I'd not spend that money now. At the time (5 years ago) it seemed reasonable and everything has been perfect the whole time.

Speak to Lee at Platinumincar (Coventry) if you want to consider options here ... But don't think mod = looks different. It doesn't have to...

Interesting move, although having driven a few F3x series they seem overly clinical for a drivers car. It feels more like you are in a 4x4 or a van than a sporty saloon. I think there is more feedback through the wheel of my other half's Punto.

If I was doing huge miles just to get to work I'd take the F series every time as it was very comfy and even the 3l D was economical, but for a fun car the ones I have driven have seemed a little boring.

Spot on!
The F30 is spot on for my work commute (75 mile round trip) but have to agree with the 4x4 comment - it is S-Drive (RWD) so I hate to think what the X-Drive ones feel like! lol

I'd remap and just sort the sounds out then. The sounds don't have to cost the Earth or stand out.

I initially had the Alpine upgrade which is the mids/highs and amp with an OE wiring loom. If you don't put the Alpine badges on the tweeter housings then you would never know. If you run this with some upgraded undersea suns you'll be sorted with no huge outlay and much improved sound.

I'm now running the Gladen 201extreme 3way setup and have amped them and it again hasn't really cost a lot.

I wont try and say otherwise....... I don't have a clue when it comes to audio!

Is the Alpine upgrade a recognised E9X upgrade - where does it come from?
I'm sure I could go to a Car Audio shop / installer and see what they recommend but they first thing theyd probably want to do is ditch the head unit and bang goes my factory look!

Alpine upgrade is a BMW option from the dealers but they do come up secondhand every so often. Not crazy expensive either tbh.

I've already told you that this is not the case.

There are many different MOST interfaces available, and this can be done either via a fully optical comm to the car or via high level output (speaker cabling) into a digital EQ...

Mega is right you can have an amazing sound system and still have oem look, won't even know its aftermarket until you hear it.
