Tracking a 335xi

Okay, so I'm looking at taking my 335xi down the 1/4 mile track here pretty soon. Pretty basic mods, JB4, FMIC, CP, DP's, etc. Nothing fancy. What's the best way to launch in order to grab the fastest time? Just shift it into DS mode and let it fly? I'm on Hankook V12's.

I will be adding meth and E85 (or race gas) here pretty soon, but I want to get a good baseline. I will also be adding the Alpina trans flash, whenever I get a chance.

Don't worry, I won't. I just would like a good idea of how to run the car so I can achieve the best times. This will be my first time to the track, but I'm no stranger on how to drive them. Just never had the time until recently, when there happens to be a 1/4 mile track a few miles down the road.

Set your shift light on the JB4 to 6000rpm, brake boost your launch, and let her rip

I thought the typical shift was around 6800? Also, paddle shift or let the automatic do it's thing in sport mode? What RPM's should I boost to on the line?

My Tips:

- Pop your hood in the staging lanes, this helps cool the car quite a bit
- Alternatively, run the heater full blast on defrost, max heat, and just keep your windows down
- DCT/DST button should be held in until you get the icon indicating it's fully disabled in the dash, with your car shut off in the staging lanes you need to do this when you close the hood and are the next in line
- M1 as you nudge forward to the staging lights, don't be in a rush, when you trip the first beam do a quick run through and make sure you're ready.
- Brake boost as much as you can, some torque converters won't hold the torque if you start spraying meth so you may have to time it so you're only brake boosting for a split second before launching
- If you get any wheelspin in 1st, you will hit the rev limiter, the trans shift logic is suspended when the DME senses wheelspin, regardless of DTC being on/off. To get around this you should pull the paddle to shift right around 5k rpm, and the 300ms change will take you to ~6500-6700 rpm in 1st. This is tricky to get right in the high powered cars.
- 2nd gear through 4th you will want to shift just after 6k rpms, going to redline will cost you a few tenths.
- At the end of your run, blast max heat again and coast until you feel your getting too deep into your braking zone, the high velocity air cools the IC and engine somewhat. On the ride back stay out of the boost and take it easy, the car can sometimes cool a good 15 degrees doing this.
- If you're still getting heat soaked and the lines aren't long, take a break for a bit with your hood up.

Sucks the heat out of the motor, really only needed if you're getting bad heat-soak and admittedly it may not be worth the trouble, but if you're knocking on the door of 11s it just might get you over the hump

Would the MaxCool function be effective while in the pits?

Yes, MaxCool should always be on when racing, it helps quite a lot.

Hitting the track Friday. Which Map setting should I use? And what should I set my "shift light" to so I can shift at 6,000 RPMs?

Mods: JB4 G5, DCI's, DP's, VRSF Exhaust, ER CP w/ Tial BOV, 5" FMIC, and 93 octane Shell gas for this run.

Next trip I will have a BMS 2.2 gallon meth kit and 114 octane race fuel.

I would stick with map 5, try to find some E85 or race gas and do map 7 if you can.

Map 5 would be better than Map 2? I'm afraid I won't have time to let Map 5 relearn, which could result in sucky times.

Do you put the accelerator all the way to the floor past the kickdown? I'm not sure if the kickdown would affect anything when manually shifting, but I'd like to be safe.

Hello, sorry to open an old thread but I have some questions. Going to the strip on Sunday. I have a auto 07 335xi. I’ve heard stories of our tranny’s and pumpkins and shafts blowing up. If I’m just doing a few runs do I have something to worry about? Is there a way to help prevent it? Will removing front drive shaft help? Also what liquid are most of you track people using in your tranny’s?
