OMG! Half Engine Light/Reduced Power!! NO

Ok...so yesterday my I drove my car around all day..had no problems at all.

About 1 month ago for approximately 2 weeks. I would get a long crank at least once a day. Then, out of the blue it stopped.

Fast foward to this morning.........I get in my car to go to work. Turn it on and it has a long crank with supper hard idoling!!! I'm thinking no...then bing!

Half Engine Light/Reduce Power comes on.

I kind of paused for a second in disbelief and just stared at the gauge.

Then the idoling starts to get violently rough.

So I shut the car off immediately....wait about 1 minute and turn it back on.

The problem was gone and I havent had any long cranks or codes all day....

My only mod is the JB3 (older chip version).

I dont know what it could be, the only thing that comes to mind is the obvious stupid HPFP.

HELP!!!!!!!

It could be a loose wire of somekind, recheck the wiring...or else the dreaded HPFP!

Take the car in to your dealership. It's likely your HPFP.

thanks for the quick response guys.

I don't think a wire is lose its been fine all this time...with the exception to a some longs cranks over 1 month ago.

I thought even though the car is showing signs of HPFP failure that the dealership cant do anything till it ACTUALLY fails?

from what i know if the JB3 was installed wrong it woul just crank and crank and not start, or just not crank at all. sounds like a HPFP to me.

i also heard you can bring it to bmw and they can run it on a pressure system to see if its within spec. but most liekly gonna have to wait until it fails completly

was it colder tonight? i know the 1.0 increases the boost in the higher rpms more aggressively than the 1.1. that's why 1.1 is better for pump gas.

I dont think the weather has anything to do with...as I wasnt driving the car.

Went to bed, woke up in the morning, turned the car on to go to work and experienced the Half Engine/Reduce Power.

So I dont think the colder weather affected it.

Stupid dealer......they know its a problem but would rather let it fail, possibly leaving people stranded instead of fixing it when symptoms arise.

Unreal.

Is there a way to easily "bypass" the JB3? If not, removing it would seem to be the next logical step in the troubleshooting process.

get a switch and flip to valet (stock) map and if you can't replicate the problem, its the jb3 but if u can then its probably your fuel pump

Sounds like fuel pump... I had a similar experience, but never got a CEL or anything... car just sounded like a diesel, I didn't have any power, idled so rough the car was shaking. I shut the car down, restarted and its back to normal.

I think I need to take my car in for a new fuel pump

It's the HPFP. And don't try to be a hero because you think you're buddy-buddy relationship with your SA is worth more to them than a big repair bill - that SA is worried more about their job than any pretend relationship with a car owner...remove the tune and any other drivetrain mods.
