A 'friend of mine' (if you know what I mean ) called some traders today regarding some nice looking Cayman S' at decent prices, like this one.....

They seem to be seriously good value away form the OPCs.

See you keep looking at the Cobalt Blue ones - a favourite of mine too. The 2 years warranty doesn't look good value suddenly - you're paying about a £4k mark-up for it (I know I've over simplified it; I'd still prefer a dealer car).

Me too - the colour and the dealer car. The cheapest Cayman S is over £25K at an OPC, in fact the one near you Rog (Wilmslow), and that is a high(ish) mile one.

This just popped up.... 987 Boxster S, 40K miles, 19"s, PCM and good colour for less than £20K. Not at an OPC but at JCT600 in York. Seems good value. Is this Helen's local/favourite Audi joint?

Lol, just finally sat down and browsed on here.

No Peter never been to Audi York. Grimsby is where I got mine from.

Porsche is OPC Leeds. They're all part of the massive JCT 600 group, which is handy actually.

So presumably if that was up at say OPC in Leeds, Sheffield or Newcastle, it would be more expensive because of the Porsche warranty added to the ticket price?

Looks a good example though.

Two black Cayman S I was interested in have both sold this week.

Thanks Helen, just goes to show how much of a mark up the OPC have. I suspect that the car will not be preped to the same standards as an OPC.

I called the Porsche Centre at Wilmslow to discuss that Boxster S with huge spec and hardtop, the chap said that they had taken two deposits on it!

Were your Cayman's at OPCs?

Yes they have to a point but I've learned very recently that VW have altered things and there are deals to be had to a point. There are more pre-builds and demo cars about for instance and now sales targets to achieve.

I would have thought you could ask for a Porsche warranty and Audi York would arrange it through OPC Leeds or Sheffield. No harm in asking? Can't remember off the top of my head how much a Porsche warranty is for the Boxster but the Turbo is £1,250 p.a.

Yes, the Caymans are all at OPC's as they're Generation II models.

Had a play in a Boxster Spyder on Wednesday (thanks Russell). What a great 'toy'!! LSD as standard, reduced weight, sports exhaust etc, etc. Fantastic fun...........not practical though. Had the full bucket seats and there is no easy way to exit the car gracefully.

Don't you just love Official Porsche Centres...... dolly bird receptionists, attentive, slick salesmen, decent coffee and a selection of light snacks (just like the Airport Club Lounge), and some very, very shiny, exceptionally well prepared Porkas....

Yep, popped into Silverstone OPC today and very impressed with the service - even received a text this evening thanking me for my enquiry.

Saw a lovely new 997 Turbo S - a very excited boy ran over to it and said "is this Dad's?" to which his Mum replied "Yes". He just stood there beaming with a mixture of excitement, awe and pride. I said "your Dad's done well hasn't he" to which he nodded enthusiastically

Maybe you should have said 'shhh lad, I'm your real dad' then winked at the wife and wandered off whistling as the child burst into tears...

The 997 is a lovely car, but I'm yet to be convinced its immune from the same issues. The boxster has the same issues as far as I can tell - guy at work had his engine go pop. You know all this from Hartech etc. of course.

If you're spending that much a 996 Turbo would definately be on my list. The NA models are not really quicker than say an E46 M3, whereas the turbo is a proper fast car at 3.9secs to 60. Engine is based on a different (GT1?) block and doesn't suffer the same issues as the NA cars from what I can gather - same applies to GT3 (8k redline!) but these have only 2 seats of course.

Should add that my take on is one of being particularly risk averse - the problems are probably over-hyped.

PS I heard a rumour that a certain TL had flat 6 related woes the other day....his engine may have been "hunting mightily"
+1. This explains why the market value of 996 Turbo is already higher than the early 997 N/A. Apart from the performance difference, it was the top model (GT excepted) and feels a bit more special, being out of production makes it all the more sought after. with each of the 911 turbo variant regarded as a iconic model in its own right.

My thoughts exactly.
The regular Carrera is underpowered, burger food.

The Cayman may be more expensive than the boxsterS but having been with a few on track there is no comparison.
The former is far quicker on a circuit if you can live without the droptop.

GT3RS does it for me
