Around 2k Cars..... Are there any out there ??
Sooooo as people may know I have had 2 sell my car due to getting my first house with the fiancé and I am looking around for a super cheap car (2k ish).
Looking for the normal things to save money.... Low mileage Low tax 1.0 / 1.2 Low number of owners Etc etc etc But I can’t seem to find much, looked on the Autotrader, Pistonheads Ebay and there is nothing or maybe I’m expecting to much. Any suggestions or help would be great thanks

Why not get something like a Citroen C1??
Funky little thing that you can hire for £89 a month over 3 years, you couldn't buy one for that at 3 years old. |

Cheapest motoring you will find! and prob don't look 'too' bad in black? |

I recently had to find an old banger for my Sister, it soon became apparent the good ones with MOT's had been scrapped and a lot of old shite was left, whose owners were trying it on price wise.

Should be loads of Polos, 206's etc about for that money. Not exactly economic but I bought a Golf VR6 for £1400 last year - worth every penny for grin factor

I am a bit VW biased (restoring a MK1 Golf GTI) but my brothers have both had old VW's recently and cost them next to nothing as pretty bomb proof - that said I know it is a little bit of a case of luck of the draw.
Should be plenty of cars about for £2k though with good history and well looked after |

Just an update on the whole car thing....
Well the car was sold at the weekend from a friend of a friend in his garage and i was over the moon , so on Monday me and jade made our way over to Sunderland 2 check out a "07" 18K miles, toyato aygo. The 2k budget went out the window with us not wanting to risk getting a sh*t car and ending up paying a few hundred quid here and there for repairs. so half way over to the garage and i get a phone call (not driving) its the guy who sold my beemer..... basically he told me the guy couldn’t get insured on the car being 19 and having no, no claims (who doesn’t check first) sooo pretty gutted. The car is back up for sale. www.north-sands.co.uk We carried on to the garage and the aygo was great, for what it is. so we put down a refundable deposit, which holds the car for 2 week. Now everything is crossed for my beemer to sell.

Sorry to be negative, but the Toyota aygo, Renault 107 and the Citreon C1 are all the same car, designed by the three manufacturers.
How much was a 3 year old aygo going to cost you?? I have looked into this and getting a brand new Citroen C1 VTR+ on contract hire is definitely the cheapest way to go, £499 deposit and 24 months at £79+vat (So £90 a month) for 8000 miles a year or £100 a month for 12k miles a year, just can not be beat even buying one for cash and gambling on its future value. Toyota are giving around £2800-3200 for an 18k mile aygo at 3 years old, and they are selling them for around £5000-5800. So if you drove out in it today and took it back in a month you would be looking at at least £2000 depreciation, which is about the same as hiring for 2 years. http://www.evanshalshawleasing.com/d...n/C1/94467763/ They have stock. Unless you plan on keeping this car for 10 years I can't see any point buying over hiring while the hire deals are so strong! |

Ahem, guilty as charged here also, that's what I did when buying the Maserati but it was too late to back out; I naively didn't realise there was different categories of group20 - cost me a fortune
Back on track, complete pain in the arse about your Beemer, but fingers cross you get a quick buyer soon. The hiring option does sound pretty good, my only reservation would be getting tied into it for a period of time, when things get better no doubt you'll what to jump immediately into something better but I suppose at £90p/m it's bloody tempting and needs to be considered in the whole scheme of things.

thank you for the advice... i looked into the hiring with the links a few posts above and it came back a 1k deposit and £85 p/m for 2 years on a c1.
the aygo is the normal 1l but with air con electic window and few other thing extra (the guy claims) and i got it for £5,125 with full service and mot (just completed before i get it) and i put down 1,125 and borrowed 4k over 3 years at 126 p/m. (might also put more down depending on other things, maybe 2.5k over 2years) good deal? bad deal? The idea is to keep the aygo also for around 5/6 years, so we can get settled with the mortgage, get married and also saved up some money for starting a family and then we would have to change the cars for the family. Thats why i thought it would be best to buy instead of hiring? Good idea? bad idea?
