Duplicate actual key from key fob

Is it possible to duplicate the actual key from the keyfob? In case i lock myself out i would have a spare key to unlock the doors.

I don't see why not. You can get a new fob and just cut the key

thats true, i have a second one i keep at home. Would the fob still work without the key in the ignition?

I'm almost positive it would work. but never tried it. The chip is in the fob itself.

It does work without the key as we expected.
