Steve,

This website will give you all the info and instructions
http://www.quickpwn.com/

I've got the first iphone and i have unlocked it and done jailbreak on every new firmware update apple has released using quickpwn its straight forward and easy. They have got an unofficial release of the new firmware 3.0

i wouldn't update to 3.0 yet until the official release from Apple, if you look on the website above you should see the download files to unlock and jailbreak 2.2.1 on the 3g phone.

I have used these guys for my 2G for the last year with no problems.

http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/index.php

Pay your money, download the files, update through iTunes, done. Currently supported all the updated Apple firmware. I'm running my company supplied sim card in it. The only functionality you don't get is visual voice mail. All other functions and apps work as they should.

They've also reduced their prices somewhat since I bought last year. I'd wait for the updated OS 3.0 before buying. Its due June/July. If you buy the unlock for OS 2.2.1 they will charge you again for OS 3.0. Found this out last year when I bought the unlock for OS 1.0 and a month or so later wanted OS 2.0.

Quickpwn is very similar as above but free, if your not sure how to do it or can't be bothered with the hassle then use the one above.

Or you can just wait for 3.0 to come out... That has all those features and more.

Indeed. I've been using it for a while, some very nice features in there, although not significant if your using cydia anyway

Just get a proper phone.

Seriously, been waiting for a chance to rant - iPhones are utter shite!!! Happen to have a freebie factory unlocked 3G come into my posession recently and its the worst phone I've _ever_ come across. Its a lovely toy but a truly, utterly terrible phone. Half the time it has no signal, loses signal altogether and gets stuck 'searching' (from which a power cycle is the only option), texts may or may not show up on the main screen depending on how you shut down the sms application, everyone complains about the quality of calls (I can hear them just fine but they all moan that i am breaking up)....

I could go on for hours about how bad this thing is as a phone (conversly its a great gadget, wonderful user interface and really fun but why the f**k couldnt they have put a decent phone in it).

I must have a goodun dont seem to have any of the above problems. It does everything i need really apart from text forwarding.

Just read about the improvement sfor the 3.0 update and one great feature ( that is available on jailbreak) is essentially using the phone as a broadband internet connection. My phone is on unlimited tarrif with o2 paid by my company, so ill be wavying bye bye to fucking BT asap

+1 Mine has not faltered since the last firmware update.

I was not into the whole "Apple Thing" but the iPhone has completely changed my perception of Apple

Never had a problem since new even with the jailbreak

Its just gone out of warranty so lets see now. Also just changed the rear case tonight to an all black one. It had gotten a little beaten up so bought a black case, new black plastic antenna cover and new logo. Had to swap out all the frame and buttons and glue into the new case!! If I'm not modding my car I'm modding my gadgets

Now looks like this
