DVD Audio?
Hi All:
Took this picture of my Idrive Screen under "entertainment", it allows me to select either CD or DVD. Obviously I cannot play DVD movies or DVD Audio disks, but why have the option listed? Nothing in the manual on this topic. Any insights? Here is the image:

The DVD is there because you CAN play Music DVD's.
Just make an MP3 DVD and take the Navigation Disc out of the Nav Drive and put in the Music disc and you will see it plays just fine. The DVD choice will become usable when you put the Music disc in. Larry |

DVD Mp3 disks!! I didn't know that. I tried a dvd audio disk but it doesn't work. Have you tried DVD-A?
Thanx for the quick response.

I am really frustrated by BMW's consistent after thought ( actually, the lack of thought!) when it comes to music- DVD Audio has been out for a while now; one would think...! Do they know the existence of 5.1 Audio? Most people would be willing to pay extra for a Dolby Digital 5.1 Player! Why is it so hard for BMW to implement this? Am I missing something here?

so there is no possible way for it to play dvds? because for mercedes the european navigation head unit allows you to play it while parked, and there is a hack guide to changin it so u can view dvds while in motion..

What? Do you want to play DVD-Audio? Won't do it.
You want to play CDs in the DVD slot and get CD Audio? Should work fine if your car has the latest update. You want to play DVD movies while driving and see them on the iDrive screen? Don't do it... |

Like it? I'd like it, but what I'd like more would be the ability to actually BUY any sort of selection using those formats... I'm afraid BMW is simply choosing to not support what is effectively a pair of dead formats...

I bought a fair number of DVD-A and SACD discs when it first came out, listened to them once and have again since. the potential for great sound was there, but they over did the rear channels, putting things there that wouldn't naturally be there. I kept asking myself "how the heck did the drummer just get from in front of me to behind me?".
from a manufacturer's standpoint, it just doesn't make sense to put the extra cost into the cars (and in reality, a low production number too - as compared to off the shelf dvd players for example) when it is in very very very low demand. Acura was pushing the TL as a technology lovers car and took DVD-A as a marketing tool. now that they have built that reputation in the marketplace, they remove DVD-A... |

Well for the average consumer the DVD-A and SACD were a bit expensive not to mention the player. It was a niche market, I agree some were overdone. But the full 5.1 sound is just awesome.
For the DVD-A and SACD to sound well you need to have a good equipment. Some ppls meaning for good sound is heavy bass lol |
