E90 325d Oil Service

Hi, I'm going to have my first oil service and was thinking of supplying the oil.

When I spoke to the service reception to book the car in I asked for the price if I were to supply the oil and it works out that the cost of 7.7 litres is £132

When I asked what the oil type was he said BMW long life 5W30... So I checked the price of some oils. Firstly is the rating correct 5W30 for an 08 325d ?

The prices I have found so far are:
Castrol Edge Deisel Engine 0W30 £81 delivered
Castrol Edge 5W30 £81 delivered
MOBIL 1 5w-30 ESP Fully Synthetic Engine Oil £88 delivered

If I were to go for 0W30 would that cause any problems ? from what I understand the 0W30 has a better viscosity than the 5W30 either way I'll be nocking £40-50 off the price of the service.

Or can anyone else recommend a good oil that is "BMW approved" bollocks ?
Or even a supplier that can beat the Neilsen CDG prices ?

Thanks
Marc

I've just recently had mine done.

The manual state BMW LL04 spec oil.

I supplied my own oil for the service, Castrol Turbo Diesel Edge 0W 30.

Had no probs at all. The service cost was £120 including micro filter. This was done at Sytner in Sutton Coldfield.

I got my oil from Opie Oils when they had a deal on. 4ltrs plus 1ltre free for £40 I think it was.

Cool thanks Skid I was looking at the same oil and I've been quoted £340 for :
Oil change,
Brake fluid,
Micro filter.

If I supply my own oil £210. Add the price of the oil = £291 its a no brainer really.

£49 in my pocket is better than in the $tealers

Williams quoted 7.7 litres but reading through the manual its 7.5

So I wont be using them they dont even know how much oil to put in (unless they are stating the extra 0.2 for soaking the oil filter)

Ok here is another alternative is the best value 60k's worth of services paid for by me and I supply the oil or because this is my first service I can purchase the 5year/60k package for £750 which includes all the normal service items :
- Oil service
- Oil top-ups between services
- Vehicle-check and standard inspections
- Micro filter
- Renew brake fluid
- Fuel filter (diesel models only)

Oooh decisions. my thought is minimum each service is £200 for just the oil service and I've managed 11k miles for this first one so say I get 14k miles max thats going to be another 4 services plus any additional parts (fuel filter, micro filter (thats £100 on its own, fitted))

So it looks like reasonable value for £750.

I was looking for something completely different on the BMW site for servicing and saw a link for Service Inclusive and thought lets have a laugh as BMW's prices are normally stupidly expensive. Now I need to see if I can get 15% forum discount from Sytner (Yeah right!!!!) worth a try though.

I just sent an email to customer services complaining that this was not offered to me and they were quick enough offering plenty when the car was bought..I await my reply,But TBH i dont think i would get value out of £750 as i will probz trade after 3 years and don`t do alot of miles,so maybe would not save too much

Dealers use Castrol Turbo Diesel Edge 0W 30, just branded differently but exactly the same oil.
