Windshield Scratch Repair

Hey guys, my car has very light scratches on the windshield. They've been there since I bought the car. You only see them when you're driving into the sun at like dusk. I've tried paint rubbing compounds and such, no luck. Can anyone recommend a good DIY kit? Or should I just call around and find a local glass shop to knock it out?

I'm guessing it was the previous owner who loved car washes that were not touch free. I do my own hand washes with microfiber.

No local shop will do polishing, they say to replace the windscreen. It's not that bad. I'll use some more BonAmi and call it good.

Check out Eastwood they have a kit (which I have used with great success)
It's a polishing wheel and compound.

Did you use a DA or machine polisher when using the rubbing compound?

After you figure out what you're going to do, you might want to look at Tint Protector.

I buffed it by hand.

Just checked out the Eastwood site. Awsome. I think this is the kit I need:

Just purchased ^ kit. $49.99 to the door. See if this does the trick. My car has the orignal windscreen and I'd prefer to keep it original.

Ok, spent 1+ hrs yesterday working on the windscreen. It's better, but scratches are still there. you cannot feel them with your fingernail either. This kit is decent, and cleaned the glass up very nice but I still need to get the windscreen replaced. It's more or less like BonAmi on roids. But did not remove my scratches. I went over it probably 6 times. It's better, but not perfect. Stinks I spent $50 and still need to have the windscreen replaced. I'd suggest this kit for more of a "restoration" item vs scratch repair. Say you had a car sitting out in a field for 20yrs, the glass would need this kit. But scratches... not really.
