Headlight help
I have a new to me 06 330xit Euro. I've done some searching incl realoem.com and cannot find what I need. The lights are zenon, definitely not halogen. One light has a burnt out "halo" ring over the 2 bulbs. The other light is good. Now the BMW mechanic (30 yrs experience) made me feel a boxy protrusion at the bottom of the light and then said the only way to fix it is to remove a wheel and undo part of the wheel well liner.
OK, no problem there but this question; I'm assuming that a bulb for the whole halo unit is at the bottom of the light ["go down there with your hand and feel the boxy protrusion at the bottom"] or am I not understanding the situation. As I said, I cannot see any halos in the realoem diagram. Thanks in advance. |

For my 330i, realoem has it listed as "lighting unit, light rings" part# 63117161444 (may be different for yours). It is not just a bulb -- it has a housing/reflector built around the bulb.
That one "lighting unit" will drive both halo rings on that side. You do indeed need to remove the wheel and front wheel well to get to the housing. There are several youtube videos showing the process. Not difficult to do -- just annoying to take everything apart. |

The halo bulb is inside an enclosure to far inboard side of the headlight housing. You will gain better access on the driver side by temporarily unbolting the power steering reservoir bracket too.
