Is it just a service bulletin? Or what would I call it? Because I did call it a recall.. So being this is not a recall, its just an extension of warranty, I should still be included in this extension correct? So if I have wastegate rattle which I do because HELIX Motorsports somehow adjusted it to make it a bit quieter, I should be able to bring the car in for this issue Im assuming? So Its not a recall or service bulletin just an extension of warranty? Still good to know.

I actually wrote BMW NA this morning, hopefully they give me some info. Only issue is, my car is in the shop now getting meth installed so Im pretty much FBO plus meth. I dont think they will touch my car like that. And the money it will cost to remove the mods and put them back on will be very expensive.

I used Princeton BMW for the HPFP recall. Now I have full bolt ons and about to have meth so they wont touch my car. Ive used Desimone BMW in the past. They were fine. Once I used Thompson BMW which Ive heard great things about. And I spoke to someone at BMW of the Main Line and they seemed nice, but mods seem to be the killer at every dealer. But Princeton seemed to be the worst as they said an intake is ok but FMIC wouldnt be. So I think Im screwed.

Hey Eric, yes BMWNA gave me a call. THey said my car qualifies for the wastegate/turbo warranty extension, but I didnt mention anything to them about mods. So in any case, I dont think I could have anything done unless all mods were removed from my car. And Thompson BMW seemed to be the most mod friendly dealership I spoke to. They accept some mods within reason. But didnt tell me exactly what mods would be ok.

This is not a recall
A few folks have mentioned the word recall with regards to the turbo wastegates. This is a settled upon warranty extension by BMWNA of the turbo wategate actuators for 8 years/82k miles; it is NOT a recall.
Someone asked about updated N54 turbos: BMW had the wastegate actuator arms updated from 6mm to 8mm in Sept/Oct 2007. Don't know if there's been further updates to the N54 turbos since. For those of you with hardware mods such as DP's: remove the mods or forget about the extended warranty.

BMW NA is being very diligent in checking for mods in regards to replacing the turbo's. I had a long discussion with the sales manager and GM at Flow BMW today about it and the said they have a regional service guy that visits all the dealers and personally checking for mods on any vehicle with turbo or waste gate issues. This person is the person who voided my warranty for a meth tube, just the tube nothing else in the car.
I did have a minor victory today. Long story short; they replaced my rear turbo supposedly under warranty and then after they finished said my warranty was voided and i owed them $2683! I payed after having a fit and went to BMW NA and the GM and they agreed to remove the new turbo and reinstall the broken turbo and refund all my money. Yes I took my car into the service department to get them to break my car...lol Ironically the car now runs fine and the waste gate is not sticking since i got it back with the old turbo on it. Monday I'm getting RB turbo's installed.

I am going through the dealer for my rattle currently. Both the dealer and BMW NA deny that there is an extended warrant on the waste gates... I am not happy about any of this. The dealer wants $200 to look into the rattle further, and is trying to get BMW to cover the repairs to replace the front turbo... If BMW declines, then I am out the 200. What gives

I tossed my settlement notice, so I don't know if all N54 cars are included.

I demonstrated the rattle to my SA, mechanic, and Service Manager. BMW told them to replace both my turbos and vacuum lines. No trouble at all for me.
Because of this, I also get new oil lines, new seals and gaskets, radiator fill, front diff, power steering, and oil change. My control arm bushings are leaking so I can pay to replace those, and my water pump and thermostat are sitting on the floor. Maybe pay to replace those too. Also my downpipes are sitting on the floor. Gonna try and get the service manger to agree to use my AR Downpipes when they put it back together. |

stupid question but does it matter what owner i am? from what i can tell im the second owner and checking the vin no recall work has been done. so before i throw the dci/tune/dp/ic on i figure i should get it checked out. im close to walnut creek/san fran /sac.
is there a way to find out before going in? is there a dealer i should stay away/go to? |

I think bmw does this on purpose so only the people who are willing to stamp their feet the loudest get this problem fixed, otherwise they will be spending a lot of money fixing every car... |
