x2, sidewalls are thin, wouldn't want to risk a blowout

Thank you for all the replies!
According to my friend, this damage does not compromise the tire since it just the part that sits inside the rim. It doesnt actually seal the air. But he and i not experts. Can anyone with more experience chime in? I will greatly appreciated it |

Thats just the excess rubber for the bead. Its not a big problem. If the tire shop that was mounting it said it was unsafe, they wouldnt mount it.

I had the same problem with these tires, patched the sidewall and noticed the chipping and tossed it. Its safer just to find a new one
As an emergency tire you might get 10 miles safely on city to get some to a tire shop

If it really is just the excess rubber on the inside, its not a problem.
If I cant see what everybody else is seeing, then maybe it is? I dont see any large chunks of rubber missing from the actual sidewall. All I see is the mold edge rubber that is like .1mm thick on the end of the bead. |

They're little rips, it doesn't reach the profound sidewall ridge you see in the first picture.
I REALLY appreciate every single comment on this thread. I will hate to go to the tire shop with my slow leak sidewall and the tire shop guys telling me its not safe to put it on. In that case, i will have to roll home with the crap tire and buy another because the tire shops don't stock my size. |

Ohhhh I thought you had a hole on the sidewall. Those little rips looks okay to mount on but they might leak extremely slowly every 3-5 months. Id still mount them as long as you aren't using them for track tires or anything

no, just a little commuting everyday 1-3 miles, and occasional 80 trips to san francisco from sacramento.

Then you should be fine until you find a new tire or get a new set

i dont know about this tire anymore, another friend came to look at it to chime in, he spotted another possibly dismount damage from the same face of the "excess rubber" on the lip. i can actually see some tire bead or steel this time. Might form possible bubble....
