STI to 335xi... my impression
I had my 06 STI for 4 years which did amazing in the snow, on turns and to just take off in general when ever I wanted. I figured that I'd miss the AWD which is why I picked the xi but I wasn't sure if the awd system would measure up. With the STI's DCCD, I could control where the power went or just lock the dif if I was in a jam. Adding snow tires made the STI a full blown tank.
quick pic taken with my Moto Droid I have to say that the BMW AWD system is pretty damn decent. I've seen the videos of where they compare the Quattro and MB system but I've been surprised how well this works. Being in the North East, I figure I get to take advantage of it for half of the year lol. In short, this is my opinion on which would do better in a given situation Snow: They're about the same, STI = more fun being able to control the power Launch: STI wet traction while slow moving: about the same. overall I'm happy with the x-drive... just thought I'd give my two cents |

I did the same thing. I went from a 2005 STI to a 335XI almost 3 years ago. My lease is up this year and I am going back to the STI. The 335 XI is a great car, but I really miss the STI.

Driving my buddies STI and driving my car is night and day difference.
STI is more raw, and I like that sometimes. But at the end of the day, they are really two different beasts. One being more luxury sport, and the other a weekend track car for the street. No doubt the Subaru's AWD system is excellent, but from what I hear the Xi is not too bad. |
