Painted kidney grills?

I know some people have painted their kidney grills black.

Was it successfull? Does the paint last? Any specific kind of paint needed?

Any info would be appreciated.

hey, I got my grills painted. Had them for about 2 and a half months now. Rock chips all over. I drive about 1.5K miles a month, so iono if you drive that much, but my grills are so messed up. I plan on getting **********s' matte black grill sometime soon because that one's actually made out of black abs plastic. Mine, you can see chrome all over the place x_X

here's the link, the pictures of the rock-chipped grill is actually mine.. haha and that picture was taken a while ago now:

Painting a grill without flex guard additive is going to cause you some future headaches.

I painted mine 3 months ago with matte black High heat/resistence paint.

10.00 total cost. Looks fantastic and not a single scratch since then. the paint is highly scratch resistant.

i just wanted to save a few bucks. if i can get them painted for $10, it would be much better than spending $80-$100.

Unique Euro Design has a type of kidney grille that is painted. Try contacting them, really nice guys who will tell you anything you need to know. They did my lower bumper mesh and it looks great.

well.....I just did my grills today.....popped them off....sanded....cleaned....primer...matte black.....clear coat...total time including dry time was about 4 hrs...will let you know how it stands up on the road....i drive quite a bit so lets see how it does against chipping!
by the way...if you plan to do this...take your time popping off the grills (see DIY file)....they are quite fragile...broke two off!....and dont do the clear coat....it kills the total matte look!
anyway....ill post pics when i have some daylight..
cheers, sammy
