Is my TPMS working right?

This is the second time I got a nail in my tire
Both times TPMS did not notify me until I started my car, specifically after work I get into my car and right at startup it tells me low pressure this is after the car has been sitting at least 5 hrs, and same thing the 2nd time when I start up to go to work so it was sitting overnight at least 12 hrs
So obviously with our revolution counter system it knew that tire was low but decided not to tell me till the car is restarted
This cant be the way its supposed to work right?

Do you have FTM or TPMS? In other words, what year is your car? Do you have TPMS sensors in the wheels?
