I'll take the blue angel eyes on my 335is any day of the week over the Christmas light style rope lighting of the other brands

+1 the newer led angel eyes look great on the new 3's, 5's and 7's. I hope BMW does not become a follower and instead stick with their own original angel eye concept all the while improving it over time.

They look tacky. Especially the Audi. The lights go out when the turn signal goes on? WTF is that? An afterthought of engineering? My eyes usually then look towards the side that is still lit and often miss the fact that the turn signal is on the other side! It's poorly executed and dangerous. BMW would never do anything so stupid.

angel eyes - corona rings - are bmw's things.

led strips and nonsense belong on audis. porsche and mercedes and whoever else is doing this is copying Audi.

bmw needs to stop w/this audi competition. its given us heavier fatter cars and run flat tires. two big negatives.

Damn, I really should've patented my idea 5 years ago when I did this. This was waaay before Audi came out with it. I'd be filthy rich now

Seems like a certain Italian automaker has jumped on the bandwagon too.

Like 'em or not, LED is the future of lighting. And not just DRL's. Audi's leading the way in all-LED headlights which will soon be found on other premium cars (including new BMW 6-series).

I like the BMW's halo lights in that they are unique, a continuous ring of light. But they look so much better when they're LED-illuminated.

LEDS are just kinda replacing the outdated looking halogen approach to the DRL... I dont really think its a "Fad" entirely

I dont mind them, just not on Bimmers.

I really liked Audi's approach in 2005 with the S8 and the HID daytime lights.

So many cars have straight bar or some sort of line of LEDs...S class, e class, 997, Cayenne, Saab, every Audi, and so on. It's so commonplace and retarded. BMW needs to not follow that trend no matter how good they look on the R8 and S5.
"...they've finally made them absolutely optimal with the LCI e92..."

--> I LOVE mine. My pre-lci 328 was dull orange, then I tried the MyCarr... even the WeissLicht. The 2011 e92 DRL halo's are MAGIC. They are wicked bright even at high noon in the Florida sun.

I agree with a lot of posters here, people seem to have short memory's or Audi just has a phenomenal marketing scheme. BMW was the first with the "unique" DRL's (period). Audi answered strong, and actually kept it unique at the same time. Then Mercedes and Porsche answered back with the strip LED... now Lexus is coming out.....

Just like the Xenon HID's (yep BMW innovation) it'll trickle out to the masses...

BMW is a benchmark for a reason. These are industry changing innovations and I cannot wait for what comes next...

They stuck with the idea of side markers on the body rather than the mirrors.
Not sure what side markers/mirror blinkers have to do with front LED discussions, but this is something I hope they change for the better.

Side blinkers always stand out in a bad way and are also too low to the ground to be effective enough. I think blinkers on a mirror are also almost always ugly. I think the M3/M6 and Aston Martin side gill LED blinkers are about as great looking as side indicators can get. Even the current 6 has a decent side blinker because it is incorporated into a gill.

It's silly that all oems have severely slowed the progress in lighting technology about 8+ years simply because of reasons such as cost savings and reasons to facelift cars. Just how many more times is BMW going to come out with non LED lights on a first gen series only because they need to be able to give it updated LEDs for the LCI? Pretty weak.

Couldn't really tell you until I saw it in production. I like them in stock form on most of the cars they are on. I'm just used to the corona rings but wouldn't mind if they are done tastefully. And if they came on a car I bought and I didn't like them, I'd find a way to code them off.
