I'm not 100% sure what he uses now. He did my A4 with Llumar tint (ceramic tint, i.e. the makers of Formula One) in 2003. My wife's car is different, but he says he switched back. So I'll confirm.

To be clear, I'm not trying to talk anyone in to using Shades. Clairvoyant asked.
I'll just say he does excellent work, and has respect for his clients cars. This means more to me than the quality of the tint. After all tint is what $300. The paint and interior on our cars is worth a lot more than that.

Cool

Wow...X1 launch at Otto's was fabulous....
Free booze + free food = WOW.

My only complaint was the beefcake acrobat...come on...I feel insecure especially when I tried to pick up on a sugar momma.

Hey Dom,
I see you post here also. I'm a member over at OVD also, but I haven't been there in a very long time. I used to drive a black A4 that I brought to a couple of meets, and my wife has a MkV GTi that I brought to at least one meet.

James

BMW Content: Despite all the jovial banter I'm looking forward to coming out for the meet in May. I'll bring my 3 series that I certainly overpaid for. But it will be fun.

You suggested Tim Hortons @ 372 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON K1V 1C1. Let's make that official. It is close to Otto's so I am sure everyone is pretty familiar with this location.

Well, I am open to any other suggestion as far as when and where.

That Timmy was a merely suggestion not definitive.

I asked for suggestions already. I am OK with this time and location and I would like fellow members of this forum to either confirm their availability or to come up with better time and date. It is more important to get together, talk cars and have a cup of coffee (since I called it, it is on me for everyone ). If there are no new suggestions, we stick with May-14 and Tim Hortons on Hunt Club Rd.

I'm good with the time and location. On google maps the parking lot doesn't look too big, but I doubt there will be many of us. Plus we cam huddle so as not to get door dings from Toyota's.

Ottawa owners who've gone the ED route:

How long did it take for your car to clear customs, train to Ottawa and then get the short version of PDI?

I'm trying to figure out how long it will take from arrival of the ship until I'm back behind the wheel.

Cheers

Providing 1mm is the closest your door gets, we can still be friends.

Cool, I see you graduated to real cars!!

oh wait, I mean grossly over-priced cars

I'm jealous, I'd really want your 4-door M3, that's my next car. By the way, I heard that there will be no more 4-door M3's after E90... pity! It's the ultimate sleeper sports sedan (but a JB3 335i comes pretty darn close )

The speculation on the M3 board is that it is likely there will be no M3 Sedan, however it is likely there will be an M3 GT potentially coded F34. The 3 GT will be an odd beast in that like the 5 GT it will sit as a separate model line based closely on the core F3X architecture.

Fortunately the F34 renders seem to suggest it will be far more sporting and compact than the awkward 5 GT. It will be a ways of yet.

Now I wait for my E90 to arrive, and I plan on keeping it for a very long time.
(after all, I've waited, and worked a very long time to get it)

Knowing that your M3 is on the same ship as mine, I have just found out that ETA at Otto's is Apr-29 ??? What the f...?? Does it really take that long to get a car from Halifax to Ottawa?

I drove X1 today at Otto's. It is surprisingly agile and fun to drive. It surpassed my expectations by all means. However, it has noticeable turbo lag and you have to keep engine at about 3000 rpm to get better response. The interior is very nice and a bit more modern but no shocker in any way. It is quite quick for a 4-cylinder and, they say, very economic to drive. My confusion is that for 3K more, you can drive X3 which is in different league comparing to X1. Did they make X1 just to boost sales of X3??? I wonder....

You're shitting me?!
If it takes damn near 3 weeks to transport my car a distance anyone could _drive_ in only 2 days they're having a laugh, and I'll be having a cry.

Where did you get the ETA? From your CA?

Yes, I got print out of my CA. I suspect that is the 'worst case' scenario. I was told that, usually, they get cars in 3rd week of the month but that Apr-29 is just popping out in my mind. I am mad too.

Third week of the month would make sense.

Ship arrives early on the 11th.
Unloaded by the 12th.
Customs 13-14th (this is the open ended part)
On train ~15th / 16th
In Ottawa the week of 18th.

In my Utopian mindset I'll get a call on the 16th saying the truck arrived at the dealer.

Your is good to go the day it arrives. I would not be surprised if it takes 2 days for mine to prep-up. I expect to get a call in week of Apr-25.

Yeah buy you'll still want your CA to give you a call when the truck drops off your car so you can drool over it while it still has the shipping film on to protect the car from your drool.

It's the best value for a BMW; but for features per dollar you'd be way better with a TSX. BMW comes out ahead on styling, brand cachet, and handling I suppose. Which I don't really regret, personally.
