Question JB4... How long to adapt and feel FULL effect??

Just installed JB4. Upgraded from JB+, but JB+ wasn't installed for about 1-2 months (warranty work on engine, and didn't bother reinstalling).

I definitely notice power over stock. But, it's not OMG. It almost feels similar to JB+.... but maybe power is smoother so that's why it's not knocking my socks off?

How long does it take to adapt? I did a few WOT runs immediately after install, drove home on freeway for about 20 minutes, another 2nd gear sprint after exiting freeway, and then parked in my garage. About 2 hrs later, I ran some errands, and had a couple more 1-2-3rd gear sprints. Car is back in the garage.

Should I feel the full effects as of yet? Or maybe another day or so? I recall it taking a day or two for my JB+. I guess I was thinking the hour here or there in the garage would be the same as overnight or next-day because the computer got to sleep....

Thanks!

Hmmm.....

I recall the JB+ really throwing me back in 2nd gear. Like the power just smacked me in the face around 3-4k RPM. Not getting that holy sh*t feeling I was expecting with the JB4... i'll give it some more time.

I felt exactly the same when switched to JB3 from SSTT. Your "butt dyno" is not going to feel big difference. Besides the power delivery of JB4 is much smoother than JB+.

Thanks for the feedback. I notice my speed increases FAST... so maybe the smoothness is the (good) culprit.

I noticed a lot of people on these forums will tend to over exaggerate the power gains from a particular tune be it a JB4 or flash etc. The reason for this is simple - they are so used to stock and probably have never had the experience of driving a highly boosted/tuned/v quick car.

And as said above, the smoothness with which these new tunes produce power can hide the actual power they make.

Also weather can have a significant impact.....this is a global forum...you might get one guy testing their new tune in cold, dry air and reporting it has masses of power and another testing in hot, humid weather and reporting it isnt as huge as what others are saying.

I believe some of these tunes (or even the stock ECU?) are programmed to pull loads of timing in hot conditions for example, just to be safe which is esp important with boosted cars + stock intercoolers.

For the JB4 you can monitor boost in dash on option 2/1 to ensure you're getting the full map 1 13psi. Also try the autolearning map 5. And remember boost will be close to stock when oil temperatures are below 160 degrees.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was reading this from other posts, as well, and thought it would be good to check. Does this measure what the JB4 (software) is requesting, per se, or the actual boost that is being produced?

Thanks, all!

With the JB4, has anybody noticed a new/more pronounced sucking/howling noise? I notice one that wasn't present with the stock or JB+ setup. Only when I'm boosting and at high RPM, though. I mean, the obvious guess is more boost=more air=more noise..... but just want to make sure I'm not hearing mechanically wrong like a turbo leak or something.....

Is there a link to the entire diagram for the modes and all the features? And how to change them on the fly?

From what I've heard, JB4 power delivery is much smoother, but like you said notice how fast your speedo tack climbs

So... either I or my car needed a good night's sleep after the JB4 install and first test drive. The next day it woke up. Like, wow! The thing pulls hard now. Definitely more aggressive than the JB+.

Traction is actually something that is difficult to get now in 1st and 2nd ;-)

Well first of all you need to learn how turbos work, and then youll realize how these tunes make your car faster. They simply crank up the turbo boost(theres much more to it than that, but that for the power part).

Please spen atleast a couple of months researching before buying any tune for your car. Youve come to the right forum, there are soo many threads on here, just start reading and reading!!
