Window Tint Help!

Whats up guys. I need some help-those of you who have tinted windows can answer this.....I just picked up my 328i yesterday and just made an appointment for friday for tints.

Heres the thing - The guy there said that a known issue on the 3 series is that inside the molding on the door panel it scratches the tint and forms a fine line cut down the middle of the tint. is this b/s? he said it wouldnt be covered under warranty if it scratches that way... sounds like a lie to me and might want to do business with another place.
feedback would be appreciated.
-Sam

Sedan back windows will scratch the tint when you roll them down but not the front, it never bothered me on my e90 cause I never looked out the back windows...everything he said was true.

Here's a DIY to install tint protector but you can see how that hard plastic piece could easily scratch tint. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=tint

I wonder if this will be an issue for me if i had my windows tinted at the BMW dealer? If it happens (i haven't noticed anything yet), would it be covered by the warranty?

When I bought my car the previous tint job was in bad shape (all 4 windows, but particularly the front 2). I had the tint redone at the dealership before I took delivery. They mentioned that they added protection of some kind to the interior seal to keep it from happening again. So far, no scratches.

I have an 07 e90. When I had my tint installed, the shop offered to add a strip of felt to the inner rubber dirt trap/gasket. It would eventually scratch the tint after repeatedly lowering/raising the window if not installed. On my 07, it was needed on all 4 doors.

You need to check 2 things.

1. clean the molding from inside, so that there is no dust particle.
2. make sure the tint is of good quality, mainly scratch proof.

I had a lancer before and everyone talked about scratching/ripping off the tint and installing moleskin. I never used that and my tint was perfectly fine after 3 yrs and 45k miles. And that too when I used minimum air conditioning and kept windows rolling up n down.

for my BMW, the tint shop never warned about this and they gave me life time warranty.
That is another separate thing that I ripped it off myself for a darker option :-)

I would suggest you to find another shop.

Its a common problem on a lot of cars, not just the E9x. It was really bad on both of my subarus and it was pretty bad on my E46. So far on both my E90 and E92 I have had no scratches!

I have the vertical scratch on my driver window but it's behind my line of site and the only time I notice it is when I reach for my seatbelt strap.
You cant see it from the outside either

My E90 had very thin scratches. They were so thin they didn't bother me.

My E93 miraculously has no scratches. Perhaps they fixed the issue?

It may be a known issue but it seemed really minor to me with the E90.

I had tint put on... no felt... scrated beyond compare... re-done and felted... no problems until the felt fell off... I eventually just cut out the troublesome sweep arm.

My E92 was tinted all around about 6 months ago. No scratches yet! I got a lifetime warranty and nothing was ever mentioned about the scratching. I had heard about it and the use of moleskin but didn't bring it up. So far so good!

e92's dont have the scratching problem, all we get to deal with is the nightmare of the dot matrix on the back...its the trade off lol do we want shitty looking dotmatrix or vertical scratches?
