BlackBoxMyCar Review

Hey guys,
So I made an appointment to see Alex mid morning today for the installation of the CR300HD on both my car and my wife's.
Alex is a very nice and friendly guy and easy to talk to. Me and my wife rate his service as very good and would easily recommend him to friend and family members.

We started on my wife's 1988 BMW 325e sedan first. Alex discussed with her the preferable mounting positions and the lighting when driving at night. He also answered every question that she asked him.

Because the fuse box is located in the engine compartment we couldn't install the power kit without finding an opening in the firewall. The other option would have been to tear apart the transmission console and tap into the cigarette lighter wiring. We didn't have the time to do that and my wife was okay with using the cigarette lighter for power since we don't smoke anyways.

Mount location on the 325e:

All in all, Alex was great in handling the install on the 325e.

With my car we started with the camera location first. Once that was determined then we tackled the fuse box at the back of the glove box next.

I assisted with the lighting as the installation was done in Alex's underground parking stall. Wish I had my flashlight with me but the light on my iPhone was sufficient for the task.
Alex hooked up the wiring to the headlight fuse #60 and the ground to the only metal screw in sight. Once that was out of the way then we started on hiding the power cord.

Downloading the files to my laptop was easy. All I had to do was attach the USB cord and the device recognized it and stated so out loud:

You just open Windows Explorer to look for the new drive letter and go to the Normal folder to extract the videos.

I showed my wife the videos we had after coming home and she rates the video quality as "professional".

Nice review, I can't wait to get my camera from Alex. Side note though, you may be a little over protective of your wife.

Actually, the videos that Alex has posted on the thread about the car accident is a good video example. I think that was his parents driving in that one and that was a cloudy day. There are other videos posted by blackboxmycar on Youtube and the video quality is comparable to what I have.

Yep and Monday morning it'll jump up to $1.48.

I noticed that the time on the video wasn't correct.
Fixed it when I linked my laptop via USB and the time synced up.

Great review! any reviews of the product coming soon?

I think the video with alex's parents is from a different dashboard camera, not the cr300

We're happy with the 300HD cameras. I've not had any power issues with my '07 323i at all. Mine is always powered. In my wife's E30 I had to buy one of those
multiple 12V power bars as one outlet wasn't enough.
Already used the warranty to replace one camera when the mic button wouldn't light up properly.
I watched Alex install it and it looked easy.

I organized a group buy of the original Blackvue direct from the manufacturer. I dealt with their manager of overseas sales and told him up front what I was doing. He gave me a price, and I sold to RFDers at my cost. They also made me an authorized dealer for their cams.

After my group buy, I was contacted by a guy in BC asking for advice on how to import the cams cheaply. I helped him out, and he started a company called BlackBoxMyCar (BBMC). He became an authorized dealer for the Blackvue, and began selling the cam for profit.

A few months after my group buy was done and all the cams were distributed, the manufacturer sent an email to all authorized dealers stating that they had implemented a minimum selling price for their cams.

In the fall, I was asked by many people to run a second group buy, so I made a few posts here on RFD stating that I was thinking about it.

When BBMC saw that I was possibly going to run another group buy, they got upset because they felt it would make it harder for them to sell their cams. They reported me to the manufacturer and said that I was breaking their minimum selling price rules, even though I didn't even have any cams to sell.

The manufacturer believed BBMC because they speak Korean and I don't. They shut me down as an authorized dealer, refused to ship me additional cams, and voided the remaining 3 months of warranty that was left on the cams that I imported in my first group buy.
Do not buy from these scummy guys. In the end they killed a non for profit groupbuy seller who was selling the cams at cost so that they can make a few bucks.
