Slight Improvement in Drag Times

Although the temperature was not ideal for running turbo vehicles, I went to the Willowbank Test N Tune last night and gave my car a couple of runs. The temperature was 23 degrees C. The second run was the best with 11.693s @ 125.10mph. The 0-60' time was shocking but I should be able to reduce this by at least 0.2s. The speed indicates a low 11s run is possible. I will wait until the temperature drops 8 or 10 degrees and give it another run. The poor 0-60' time resulted from a combination of the brakes not holding on the start line while the revs were being increased and over revving in low gear. The time sheet is attached below.

Great time coupes, solid effort.

Agree your trap speed is good but you 60ft could prob improve by a 10th or so to 1.7-1.8 and you'll get your car under 11.5 sec.

I guess with any rear drive car you will eventually need semi slicks or better drag radials on some 17s to improve your 60ft (Are you running street tyres?) Your trap speed indicates car is prob running 360-370rwkw.

Good luck when weather cools down a bit

I am running 245/40/18 MT ET Street Radials. Traction isn't an issue as yet. I data logged both runs and these indicate that I am not getting the boost up high enough on take off.

Yes Shane, I installed it by myself on jack stands. Replacing the turbos was an easy job compared to this but I got it done successfully. From the data logs, it appears the I was reaching around 2,700rpm on launch. The problem was I wasn't allowing the boost to get high enough. I need to install a boost gauge or use the Cobb to watch my boost on the line. I will get this all sorted before I run again. There was no problems with the transmission during the runs.

Since the last time I run the car last Sept, I have installed the RVO transmission, Fuel-it TBI, E60 PTF tune, 50mm VTT inlets and replaced secondary catalytic converters with 200cpsi units. These changes to date have given me a 0.05s and 4mph improvement. However, I have had a 0-60' time of 1.825s which through straight mathematics would have reduced the 11.693s time by 0.13s to 11.563s. I am sure a sub 11.5s run is possible.

Cool - so how you finding your RVO trans for driveability? Is it still smooth? Are you running the Alpina flash (assuming your auto)?

Great work Coupes you'll get there. A 1.9 60ft isnt to bad considering larger than stock turbo's. Mph is looking great. Ill be running my car in a couple of weeks once my tune is soughted out, hopefully it starts cooling down a bit by then too.
P.s: what were you racing against on that run? Did he back off a little before the line?

Due to the high line pressure it bangs hard when I put it into drive. There is no problem going up through the gears but thumps hard going from 5th to 4th on the down shift. All other gears on the down shifts are good. I can live with it at the moment but may have to improve these two issues in the future.

Surely, it has got to start cooling down soon. I ran the same car on both runs. It was a 580rwhp Falcon XR6 turbo. He had pulled a flat 11s run in the past but only managed 11.28 and 11.31s runs on the night. He is running stock intake and exhaust so it is not that bad. His speeds were 124 and 121 mph which I believe were low because of the restrictive exhaust. Have you installed your larger turbos as yet Heath?

Heath, low 11s should be achieved the next time you hit the drag strip. Who are you using for the tunes?

It would be great to see a 10s pass from your car. Torque is the main ingredient for getting good times and getting it at the correct revs for launching with the tune is imperative. I cannot wait to get my car on the dyno to see where the torque curve sits with the PTF tune.

I dont think i will get a 10 with the Hexon RR600's, but i need a figure to aim for. Unfortunately the 700's wern't available when i purchased.
When will you be dynoing your ride mate??

When the weather cools down to mid 20s maximums, if that ever happens.
