Crap E92 headlight wire insulation

Just had to replace the left headlight assembly as all the wire insulation is cracked and falling off. My Indy showed me and said during that time ( it' a 2009 ) BMW used some kind biodegradable insulation instead of plastic to be more environment friendly. Unfortunately it starts to break down years faster than planned. I asked is the whole car like this, he said no. Said VW and Volvo also have this problem. Sucks that I live in a Condo and cant do major work, but the price was more than fair for what I could buy the part from FCP for.

Anybody had this happen? I guess the right side will go next.

Yep, the bulb wiring inside both headlight housings (pre-lci halogen) on my 2006 is starting to crack and fall apart. I have new housings that I need to get around to installing...

Happened to me when I cleaned the inside of the headlights. It took me a few more days because of that. But it can be fixed. I rebuilt the insulation of all wires with Heat Shrink Tubing.

Yes. You have to be careful, patient and focused so as not to forget the order.

There is only one that wasn’t possible to depin because it goes too far to the inside, but for the rest just need to take the wiring harness out.

It’s not limited to that MY or manufacturer, either. All of the wiring in my e60’s hella adaptive xenons have started flaking as well. Luckily, it only has a few more weeks in my garage before it’s off to the classified ads.

Mercedes as well. Our '07 GL has the incredible disappearing insulation trick.
