Ok, this may sound like a dumb question but it's driving me nuts.

On the E90s BMW offered a couple different packages, ie sport, premium etc and obviously the 328i and 335i in the later years.

I'm specifically interested in a 2010 or 2011 E90, likely a 328i. I've noticed the E90's (both 328 and 335) have two different steering wheels, the base wheel, which I do not like and the "sport" wheel, which I thought was part of the sport package. However, looking at numerous 2010's the second wheel seems particularly hard to find. In 2011 however, it seems to be far more prevalent, is there a package or package combo that I'm missing? I'd like to know specifically what package(s) I'm looking for. Sport was a must but that doesn't seem to be consistent either.

Also, it seems 6MT's are particularly hard to find in these cars...

im not exactly familiar with the 10/11 e90's but i do understand your frustration with the sport steering wheel in the e90! when i upgrade i am definitely doing my homework and finding that sport package/sport wheel in the e90 which does seem to be quite rare. did bmw think e90 meant old granny was driving it?

I think you may be referring to the msport package wheel, thick with the perferated leather. The MTs are rare, I stumbled across one literally by accident, wasn't truly ready to buy a car, but caved and snapped it up after realizing that they don't come along that often. If you find one jump on it! O and make sure not to tell the dealer that the MT is a must, they know how rare they are and it killed all my bargaining power. Good luck! im not sure what kind of wheel i have... It's got the small-ish silver paddles that flick both ways for up/down shifts. what do the different ones look like?

i think you mean msport. Yes those are rare even rarer with a 6mt. Most people like myself just get coilover and msport wheel. and get a m3 bumper and rear or mtech parts.

1. M sport
2. Sport
3. Non-Sport (shouldnt apply to 2010/2011)

MT is very hard to find... took me months I found M sport coupe with manual idrive and red leather one of a kind

you will get the sport wheels standard on the e92 coupes.

Sedans you will either need the Sport or M-Sport package. M-sport has M steering wheels.

One thing to note if you live in a cold climate - the M Sport wheel is not heated. For me, that is a total deal breaker, but I live where we have gotten nearly 6' of snow in the past 6 weeks or so.

Manuals are both fairly rare, and the folks who buy manuals KEEP them, they don't lease them for 2-3 years, and thus they are hard to come by as low mileage used cars. Also geography means a lot - you will have a much harder time finding manuals in urban areas.

So it is "M Sport" not sport that gets the steering wheel. Man that kind of sucks because I was wanting to avoid the "M Sport" package. I've read horror stories about people bending wheels with the M sport package. Our roads here are terrible and I don't want to be replacing wheels at 500 bucks a piece.

No one knows which steering wheel you're talking about unless you provide a picture. This is the M Sport steering wheel.

I love my M-Sport steering wheel -- most friends and family who have driven my car comment on how good it feels in their hands. I've driven a loaner 328 with the base wheel and that thing is just horrible -- reminds me of my family's old Honda Civic from way back.

M-Sports are hard to find, M-Sports with MT are even harder to find. Keep your eyes open and realize that the car you're looking for can be quite a distance from you.

Not true. I have a 2011 Sport MT 328i and it comes with a sport steering wheel as well. It's a nice thick steering wheel, very different from the non sport steering wheel.

So to get things straight guys:

This is the M-Sport steering wheel which comes with the Msport package:


This is the Sport steering wheel which you get on every E92 without Msport


This is the Standard steering wheel which you get on an E90 with no Sports package. It isn't available for the E92.


This is the Performance steering wheel (+ there is a version with display)
