Upgrading sat nav....

I have poor mans sat nav and it doesn't come with speed cameras on it. I understand you can upgrade the system easily but I'm not sure where to start.

Can you tell me where I should look please? I only have the one cd drive for a cd player in my car, there isnt the slot to put a sat nav dvd in the dash.

What year is your car & which Sat Nav? - if it's the later hard drive version you cannot put speed cameras on it whereas the DVD version discs with speed cameras can be purchased

Even if you could put speed cameras on it. They are only icons and don't sound a warning when you approach.

Michael, I just had a brand new CIC retrofit done on my car (had no sat nav before, replaced dash etc), and installed the most current set of BMW Maps (2013 - 2) and they do not come with Speed Cams, I think theres no such option Im afraid

Ah I see

Thanks for clearing that up peeps. I don't really mind - It would be useful sometimes - but when I am motorway cruising I just stick cruise control on anyway and be done with it.

There is no way to have 7 digit postcode on the older nav.

7 digit postcode is possible on cic navigation. I upgraded mine to do it just by loading the latest version of the maps.

As above, I have the seven digit postcode on mine. You need a software update for this though, not a map update.

Yes , it's possible on CIC but not on CCC which most people call it older idrice system.

You will have CCC. You will have a DVD slot in your dash which the nav uses for the maps. You will also only have a menu button next to your iDrive knob unless someone has changed it rather than the later multi button type.

The later CIC iDrive uses a hard disk for the maps and music can also be stored on it.

The iDrive changed on the 3 series of all variants on build 09/2008 onwards.

It is indeed possible.
I did it on my 2006 car

Its a bit of a faff to be honest, but it can be done with the pirate discs that add cameras and 7digit postcode data.
Basically they become like a saved POI, then you navigate to them IIRC.

Definitely done though.
