Recode key from old e92 to new e92

Last year our e92 got totaled and I still have the spare key (non comfort access). Insurance replaced it with a 1 year newer model with comfort access.

Is it possible to reprogram the old key for the new car? Is it DIY or need to include the local service center?

Used keys can technically be reused if they are reset first. I know of a couple places that can reset a used key to virgin for around $20. The virgin key would then need to be programmed to the CAS with something like Autohex. GCoding BMW will program your used key for $100, or supply and program a key for $200. The CAS is a complicated, encrypted system that requires serious tools to work with.
