I highly recommend the Helene Performance.
IMO, it's the best panel filter on the market.
The filtration is as good as OEM but the flow is much greater.

There are plenty of companies that are too concerned about the flow and put the filtration on the back burner.
HP thinks about filtration first and foremost.
They then look at how they can increase the flow and they perform plenty of testing including the number of pleats in conjunction with the air box.
They actually found out that less pleats worked great on a bench test but created turbulence in the air box.
This is why they came up with the amount of pleats that they have now.

I used to have a SE panel filter on my previous E46 M3 (loved it). Anyway I hear about BMC but don't know much about their product...thanx for all the info guys. Looks like I will be purchasing my buddies from him for $30 (only like 4 months old). He traded in his 07' 335i coupe for a new M3 sedan (right before BMW announced the 0.9% deal on sedans ).

I plan on switching to a AFE or BMS if or when I choose a JB3 in the future

Have you checked out the new aFe 335 Filter Replacement? These are available in oiled or dry filter elements and improve air flow over stock. They are also 100% C.A.R.B. certified so you will pass smog and inspections with flying colors

Picking it up this evening from my friend (now he upped the price to $40) being he has some other offers . Not too bad for a 4 month old filter (if that).

I agree, I think Helene is the way to go unless you are 350+ rwhp then who knows. Even if it doesn't out-flow the K&N or BMC, which it might, but even if it doesn't the filtration is best. After reading all the posts/reviews I get the impression it pretty much maxes out the stock airbox design for airflow plus provides maximum filtration. Quality product, worth a few extra $$.

Installed it last nite...what a nice difference (all I am currently running is a SSTT). The cars seems to have more pull & the engine bay is a lil more louder/ more grunt.
