2006 330i e90 > 200k miles
Today I passed the 200k miles mark.
I bought the car on July 2005 - Replaced a head bolt at 100k - Replaced starter at 190k - Replaced water pump at 180k - One adaptive light failure (not fixed) - oil pan gasket leak at 170k (not fixed yet) - STILL original clutch - Commute to work every day (30 miles) |

Congrats! I look forward to putting many more miles on my 330i. Mine has the oil pan gasket leak too... there's always something that needs fixing, but that doesn't stop me from driving the shit out of my ride!

How much preventative maintenance did you do in order to get here? What I mean is, did you replace fluids at old-school intervals? (Not lifetime or 25,000KM oil for example.)

- Replaced coolant every 2 years - replaced spark plugs twice - Flushed brake fluid twice. - All other fluids (including man trans oil) are original. |

Great testament to the E90! Nice to see a bay area owner getting the most out of the car :-)
How did one head bolt fail? Rather odd. The VC needed to come and you found just one had failed? Surprised you haven't changed your trans oil. Would really help shift feel I'd say. |

I discover that the head bold failed (snapped) because the car started to leak oil and luckily they were able to extract it with an extractor and replaced it with only the valve cover gasket.
The original plan to fix it (if the extraction failed) was to unmount the entire head... Transmission fluid has been on my todo list.. even if I can still shift very smoothly. Quote:

I guess everyday commute to work keeps the car ticking like clock. Also, do you occasionally full throttle or you tend to drive in right lane - just trying to find correlations between driving style and long-life of vehicle
1. What oil/filter do you use? 2. Have you replaced engine filter? 3. Any extreme tear n wear in cabin? 4. How is paint holding up (chips/paint)? 5. Average MPG? Thanks1 |

Sounds like the car has treated you well and vice versa. It is interesting how long some of these fluids last. I've seen diff fluid with about 75k and was surprised how good it looked. |

OP, Congrats on the mileage! She's got a lot of miles left in her. Go for another 100K. So to be clear, the headbolt that broke was internal to the valve cover, or the external headbolt next to the oil filter housing?

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

- Up to 170k I drove the car in a spirited way.. from time to time redline it. Michelin super sport would last around 25k. From 170k I started to treat her more like an old car.
- Interior is in a good shape other than the top of the stick shift. - I change the oil myself with Mann-Filter HU 816 and Mobil 1 0w40 - I change the air filter with cheap Fram CA10464 every 20k - Paint is in a good shape, but I always garage it. - Average MPG on my commute is 24 mpg Quote:

200K on the original clutch, wow!
Have you had an oil analysis done?

Was it a bad choice to get a 127k miles car vs a 85k one? (Bought and transported by a 3rd party truck from Germany)
127k miles car was 1.5k € cheaper. But I've already spent about 850 € on repairs on it already. Car itself cost 8k eur, +transport and a small cut for my friend making it 9.1k eur total. Last thing that needed swapping was the exhaust vanos solenoid, cost me 160€ in total incl labor. Next fill up I'll drop in some STP fuel injector treatment. Plugs were last changed at 105k miles by the previous owner.... so far no issues have arisen with the engine but it does feel a bit slow on the throttle/response sometimes? I don't know if they changed the ignition coils too but wouldn't that be a good idea to do? Because it's been said that faulty/worn spark plugs often wear ignition coils too, or was it the other way around. I was thinking that I could look at the OIL level indicator for a telltale when the engine is warm during driving. Also I'm wondering if it's a good idea to have the vehicle thoroughly inspected for 50€? Don't mean to highjack the thread btw, but just need some exp drivers to give me their suggestions.
