No shell material is allowed to remain in the combustion chamber. It must be vacuumed out as the tech works on the cylinder (each cylinder must be moved to TDC before blasting and scraping can be done on that cylinder) .

Correct, there shouldn't be any chance for blast material to get into the oil circulation, unless you remove the valve cover to judge TDC by the way the cam shafts are pointing. My plan is to put a tarp over the engine compartment with one hole in there, taped to the intake I'm currently working on.

Here's the SI B 11 03 14 that explains the process.

in the end, even with this kit how do we clean the intake manifold since bmw doc says it needs to be sent out.
My SA told me today that they are now back to replacing intakes instead of cleaning them (under warranty...including CPO). FWIW.

I am more confident than ever that BMW is getting their arms around this problem.

Then again, my car is in my garage and has no symptoms...as opposed to "in the shop awaiting surgery".

Just talked to my friends at the BMW dealer. The are able to sell me the special tools needed for the blasting job. Below are the BMW partnumbers (not special tool numbers).
Vacuum adapter 8129 2356 967
Vacuum adapter 8129 2356 966
Blasting wand 8129 2356 970
Blasting wand 8129 2356 969
Blasting wand 8129 2356 968
about $60 each for the vacuum adapters and $25 each for the wands.

Any news yet on the Bavarian Autosport guys? I don't see anything for the 335d except for the media and starter remote switch.

according to the SI B11 03 14 you also need a crank pin:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271561522674...84.m1423.l2649

and also socket for crankshaft hub. that i couldnt find anywhere online. Can anyone help ? maybe a full part number?

to do the job i guess you need to take off the valve cover. Do you guys suggest replacing only the valve cover gasket or every other little gasket as will listed in the SIB. because all that add another 150$.

btw, since i dont have connections at the dealer the cheapest online store for the parts above was http://www.bmwpartsupply.com/

the actual walnut blasting machine (35$) can be purchased at:
http://www.harborfreight.com/portabl...kit-37025.html

actual walnuts (25$). just not sure if fine or coarse grade is needed. suppose to be certain mm in size.
http://www.harborfreight.com/25-lbs-...dia-92155.html

as far as bavauto goes, they dont have an ETA and that was about a month ago. Maybe they also want make a video (like 335i) that goes along with the kit which may take time .

I am going to order this kit and dismantle my car, then have it towed in and done properly. After they fix what I screwed up, it will be $5000.

Because I suck at DIY.

to you guys who forge parts in your garage and Apollo 13 your way through problems.

I figured I wouldn't need the crank pin because the engine should be able to have stable positions on or near TDC for each cylinder. Since both valves are closed through compression and work stroke it shouldn't be so hard to find.
To turn the engine you can use that remote control pushbotton for the starter motor relay, so no crankshaft socket needed either.
I was hoping to be able to see the valves through the swirl ports which would enable us to keep the valve cover on = less chance to get stuff in your oil. I think the SIB does that only to clarify things on how to find TDC.
As far as the walnut media is concerned I think the fine stuff is needed.

Yah, I built my own 335d in my garage. This should be a piece of cake.

How urgent is your CBU cleaning? I can sell you mine after I'm done. But I'm planning to do the work over the winter months.
Or I just order two sets and you pay for shipping to Canada.

Probably the only thing not worth sending around due to size and cost of shipping (think Canadians or across US) is the walnut blasting machine since it's 35$ and available in harbor freight stores unless it's small enough for some flat rate deal.

Anyways I asked my mechanic to look into trying to get those tools via his sources otherwise it would be a regular online order.

How many ppl willing to share? 2 of us already makes the cost 1/2

Hi There,

I know this reply is to a very old post, but if you still have the machine in Canada, I am interested.
Please let me know.

I'm sure the process and price will be much more drawn out. Go meth and never look back ;-)

Where is this $700 CBU quote? I'll drive to SoCal for that price. I'm in Phoenix, AZ.

I did wind up buying the original wands and vacuum adapters. Shout me a PM if you'd like to borrow them. Anyone close enough to drive to Detroit, MI is also welcome to borrow the blaster tank.

Im in the city also and did all this, I have a ton of pics. If any one needs any info. The harbor freight unit works just fine. You can also get the aluminum rods for the nozzle from home Depot or Lowes. If resizing of images wasn't such a PITA on this site, I'd have a whole write up. The androld scope cam worked the best hooked up to a android tablet for bores scoping of valves. Takes pics and videos. A good air compressor with a good amount of CFMS works the best. I used 2 boxes of shells.

Mine needs it bad along with the damn EGR, Oil is sooty too and I barely drove it 1k miles.
I can't even drive it anymore since it goes into limp mode when I drive 10-15 minutes at 1500rpm.
