MT Grinding Gears
I am currently driving a MT and from time to time I release the clutch too early while shifting, especially driving fast with high rpm. Can someone explain to me if I grind gear too often, what will get damage with the transmission and about how much will it cost to replace the parts. I think I grind gear about 5 times now

If you don't learn to properly operate the clutch, the gear damage could be extensive and expensive, especially at high revs. So make certain the gearshift has been completed BEFORE releasing the clutch pedal. Also, don't forget that if you are trying to upshift at redline and accidentally downshift (for example: going down to 2nd when trying to shift up to 4th), a great deal of damage can be done to the engine due to extreme over-revving. Google "money shift" for more info. Tom Last edited by Tom K.; 05-14-2012 at 12:07 PM.. |
