Post Microfilter replacement

So i got a quote from the dealer for about $150 to replace the in-cabin microfilter. It sounded a little steep so i started to look at this forum for DIYs on this. Found a few and i'm ready to tackle the job. My question here is should i buy the actual OEM part # 64 31 9 142 115 or go with what sounds to be a replacement copy from Amazon or other on-line discount car parts. The price difference is only about $20, but i don't know what this will do from a reliability stands. Has anyone used a "copy" and had success? Just curious what you guys think!

Do you have a link to the one on amazon? I can't find one on there for the E9X. If the aftermarket is a carbon filter (not just paper) then I MIGHT consider trying it. That is only if there have been positive reviews on the product already. In the end, a filter isn't really that hard to make, so an aftermarket one could very easily be just as good as OEM.

Here is the link...and after looking some more, it appears that this is not a carbon filter, but rather just paper....

Did you try Tischer? I don't think the filter is that expensive IIRC. I'd be cautious about using an aftermarket filter. The filter element snaps into the filer cover (which is what you remove to get to the filter). If the aftermarket filter does not eaxctly fit the cover, it may lead to an improper fitting of the cover when placed back on the car. If the cover does not filter properly, it can lead to water leakage into the blower housing and eventually damage the blower motor.

I got a tune up kit from tischer. It was 7 quarts of oil, oil filter, seals, crush washer, air filter, and and microfilter.

I can't remember what I paid but it was around $100 I think.

If you look at the bottom of that Amazon link "Customer Also Viewed This Item" ...it has a link to a charcoal filter:

what did you use for a search criteria to find the DIY? I can't find any, and have a can of ozone to spray in there.

I got my microfilter from amazon, it was made by Mann Filter, which is the company who makes the OEM one.

It's in the "computer" i think the icon is a thing that looks like a filter with an A/C fan blade icon in the corner.
